Beautiful comfy setting

The decor is primarily wood themed, with beautiful settings on each table complete with a miniature eiffel tower. Unlike most other french restaurants, Rendez-Vous has a pretty open air concept to their restaurant, where diners can enjoy the cool evening breeze when dining in.

A touch of Paris on every table

Now I'm really very new to french dishes, hence picking from the ala-carte menu would be really tough. I hence opt for their RM89 set menu which includes one starter, a main course and the mandatory cheese platter and dessert. I was excited even before the starter came.

A simple, yet pretty appetizer was served, where the Amuse Bouche came with homemade hard bread, cheese and caramelized fruit. Love the fruitiness of this appetizer dish, perfect starter to whet our appetite for more to come.

Escargot
Escargot

My partner for the night ordered the set which comes with Escargots as a starter. Personally, I've never actually taken these before, and with much hesitation took a bite or two. To satisfy Malaysian’s generally strong taste buds, chef tweaked the reblochon (a soft French cheese made originally in Savoy) sauce recipe to a more savory one with fragrant garlic and butter. The escargots came in bite size pieces, so just pop one or more into your mouth if you love them.

Pate
Pate

Not too sure if I ordered the best set to suite my tastebuds. My starter, a common food in French cuisine, pate is a mixture of cooked ground meat and fat minced into a spreadable paste. Served on a piece of bread, the mixture of rabbit and deer pate is definately an acquired taste. Take it together with the caramelized onion to complement the very heavy pate's flavour and taste.

Grilled Lamb Skewer
Grilled Lamb Skewer

Diners can choose one from the 4 delicious main courses, including Grilled Lamb Skewer, Quails with White Wine Sauce, Salted Cod Fish Brandade and Thick Cut Salmon Fillet. I chose the dish which turned out to be my favourite for the night, the Grilled Lamb Skewer. Served together with healthy garlic mayo spinach, juicy tomato and baked potato at side, the flavours were off the charts, with tender lamb meat, savoury bacon and cruncy capcisum filling up my happy stomach.

Salted Cod Fish Brandade
Salted Cod Fish Brandade

Something different from what I'm used to, the Salted Cod Fish Brandade main came on a platter with no resemblance whatsoever to a fish. Instead the dish had a smooth and creamy puree-like texture. It's not an easy dish to prepare though, as I was told the Chef needs to desalt the salted cod fish for many hours, then cook it before deboning the fish to make the brandade together with potatoes and fresh herbs. Not my cup of tea as I always preferred red meat.

Cheese combination platter
Cheese combination platter

We had a combination of some of the best cheese Rendez-Vous had to offer. A mandatory dish in every French meal, so that's what I'm told, the cheese is a mix of savoury, bitter, sweet, and sour all into one. You are bound to love one or the other. Our cheese combination platter was served just before dessert.

We ended the meal with two desserts of our choice, one each. The Vanilla Creme Brulee came in a rather large portion, just the way I like it. It wasn't too overwhelming sweet, yet had that distinct creme brulee sweetness and taste that we have come to expect from a good Creme Brulee. Love the brittle crispy coating. The second dessert, fluffy meringue on top of sweet vanilla custard gave the perfect sweet end to our french meal out at Rendez-Vous.

It looks so sophisticated and French-y (ignore my country bumpkinness please).
I'm more of a white meat person. The fish looks unspectacular but sounds promising. I want to try that someday!
