Little Penang Kafe Midvalley Megamall Bloggers Meet-Up

So I got to know a fellow blogger friend from Sibu was in town, and upon a request to meet up, landed myself at Little Penang Kafe @ Midvalley Megamall for a short dinner. Who was the blogger? Well, it's none other than Suituapui, and together with a bunch of other bloggers we had a rather nice dinner together last night.

The last time I managed to meet up with Suituapui, a really nice blogger from Sarawak, was last year, before baby Martin was born. (Free Breakfast With A Fellow Blogger). Now that's a pretty long time back, so I was pretty hyped up over catching him over dinner. It was an added joy that I would be meeting up with fellow bloggers Smallkucing, SimpleLife, TwilightZone, SK, and Bananaz for the first time as well.

Coming back to the food, it wasn't my first time dining over at Little Penang Kafe, but it was at their other branches. It was my first visit to this eatery in Midvalley Megamall. Located at one of the corners in the shopping mall, it wasn't too hard to find. Check out some of the food we had that wonderful evening.

Char Kuey Teow - RM11.30
#1 Char Kuey Teow - RM11.30

On the menu, this Char Kuey Teow dish was tagged as one of the chef's recommendation. There was a choice of the normal one as well as the "seafood type" which went for a slightly higher price of RM18. Shown above is the normal one, which came in a rather huge portion, with 3-4 pieces of prawns and "crab meat" on top. The taste is almost similar to the good ones I've had in Penang, except for the slightly wetter texture. Pretty good I would say.

#2 Otak-Otak (Set of 2) - RM9

#3 Lor Bak (Set of 2) - RM9
#3 Lor Bak (Set of 2) - RM9

The two side dishes which we ordered were the Penang styled Otak Otak, and the Lor Bak. Very similar to what we would find on the streets of Penang, the Otak Otak was the wet version. The Lor Bak had ample chicken meat inside, crispy on the outside. Tasty stuff there, which complement our main dishes really well. The rather high prices didn't sit too well with me though.

#4 Home-Style Fried Rice - RM11.30

#5 Chicken Nasi Lemak - RM11.30
#5 Chicken Nasi Lemak - RM11.30

I was rather intrigued by the fact Little Penang Kafe priced most of their main dishes RM11.30. Why the awkward amount, not rounded to RM11, or RM11.50? Anyway TwilightZone and Smallkucing's mum, Kathy had the Chicken Nasi Lemak and the Home-Styled Fried Rice respectively. It wasn't too impressive, just the usual fare, with some comments on the fried egg being not up to mark being mentioned. It was up to personal preferences, but I do feel the dish was really too simple for the price we pay.

Kari Hantu Set - RM15

Siamese Lemak Laksa - RM11.30
#7 Siamese Lemak Laksa - RM11.30

Suituapui and family had Little Penang Kafe's set meal, the Kari Hantu set as well as the Siamese Lemak Laksa. Uniquely named the Kari Hantu set, it was named after the Penang-styled beef curry. Served with sides of Lor Bak and the Ju Hu Char, it was a filling dish. We were told the Siamese Lemak Laksa was one of the must-have dish here. Similar to Penang laksa, except with curry based soup, I did not really get to try it out this round.

Red Ruby dessert - RM5.20
#8 Red Ruby dessert - RM5.20

One of my favourite dessert whenever I dine at any Thai restaurants, this Red Ruby dessert served at Little Penang Kafe did satisfy my craving. There were plenty of red crispy water chestnut swimming in delicious santan, topped with sweet slices of nangka. A pretty good ending to a very full meal out with bloggers and friends.

One for the album, it was really good meeting up with all of you!

We'll meet again someday...and soon, hopefully.
