Samsung SCX-3405 FW - Monochrome Laser Printer

What is your take on laser printers? For me, I've always related laser printers especially monochrome ones to the huge bulky printers we havd in those corporate offices. Samsung recently came out with a really compact monochrome laser printer for small office/ home office at the end of February. The Samsung SCX-3405 FW had the looks, and full features to cater for every needs, in monochrome of course.

The purpose of this writeup will be to share on the functionality and features of this nifty gadget, the Samsung SCX-3405 FW. In a nutshell, the compact monochrome laser printer had print speeds up to 21 ppm, a print resolution up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, a monthly duty cycle up to 10,000 pages, 150-sheet paper tray and wireless connectivity. How's that for some heavy duty small office output. On top of the functions above, the SCX-3405 FW adds scan, copy and fax functionality along with a 40-sheet automatic document feeder, a 16 x 2 line LCD, a 433 MHz processor with 128MB of memory and wired network connectivity.

The Built
The printer's built was solid with a light fray outer shell and an ultra compact footprint. We could actually do a simple flick to open the 150-sheet paper tray and adjust the guide to print a variety of media from envelopes, labels, card stock in a variety of sizes ranging from 3 x 5-inches to 8.5 x 14-inches.

The Connectivity
What's unique about the Samsung SCX-3405 FW would be it's connectivity options which can be found at the back of the printer. Connection options include: Hi-Speed USB 2.0, Ethernet 10/100 Base TX and Wireless 802.11 b/g/n.

The Print Speed
Samsung advertises the SCX-3405fw as being capable of print speeds up to 21 ppm, that's a fast 21 papers per minute which is the benchmark for most laser printers nowadays. This is good for speed printing of documents, especially when it is needed urgently and in bulk.

The Print Quality
For a monochrome laser printer, I have come to expect impeccable quality especially the black text. You’ll find solid black text with no fading or other flaws in normal mode. The text is only slightly lighter in toner saver mode but the prints were nearly identical. Of course, don't expect high quality photo, monochrome laser printers are meant to print out tonnes of black text, with the occasional graphic here and there. The Samsung SCX-3405 FW should satisfy all your needs, as it offers all the features you're likely to need in a personal printer - scanning, faxing, and copying.

"Do note that Samsung offers free apps that that let the printer both print from and scan to Android, iOS, and Windows 7 devices over a Wi-Fi access point, with plans to allow direct Wi-Fi connection with a firmware upgrade later this year. Most of all, it's small enough to be a good physical fit as a personal printer, as well as a good fit for what it can do."
