Star Cafe & Bistro @ Taman Desa Jalan Klang Lama

Star Cafe, images of dining like a star came to mind when I was invited by a few friends to dine there last weekend. Located just off Old Klang Road in Taman Desa, Star Cafe has been in operation for years serving fusion food, but just recently they re-did their cafe to cater for bigger crowds.

Comfortable ambiance at Star Cafe Taman Desa

Reaching Star Cafe at lunch time on a weekend, I was pretty glad to find the ambiance comfortable and cool with the air conditioners running full force. We were greeted by the owners to be seated all ready to dig into some of their menu specialties. It was going to be a good weekend afternoon I thought to myself.

Chicken Deminoff - RM28
#1 Chicken Deminoff - RM28

The first dish was a poultry dish, the Chicken Deminoff is this quarter chicken cooked in creamy wine sauce served with shallots, mushrooms, baby carrots, new potatoes & veggie. I liked the flavors as the chicken thigh was really tender. Surprisingly, this first dish was my favourite compared to the subsequent dishes that came up.

Rainbow Trout Armandine - RM37.90
#2 Rainbow Trout Armandine - RM37.90

Now I'm not really fond of fishes with a strong fishy taste, and the Rainbow Trout Armandine had a strong taste. It was essentially a Grilled Trout topped with brown almond and butter sauce served with parsley potatoes and fresh veggie. Janice said it was okay though.

Sang Har (Fresh Prawn) Noodles

Bitter Gourd fried with Seafood and Glass Noodles - RM14
#4 Bitter Gourd fried with Seafood and Glass Noodles - RM14

Star Cafe serves fusion food, hence there are both western and eastern cuisine, with the Sang Har (Fresh Prawn) Noodles and the Bitter Gourd fried with Seafood and Glass Noodles to satisfy the asian palette. Bitter gourds usually have this slight bitter taste, but here they're presented in their full bitter glory, something which I couldn't really get used to.

Duck A'la Orange - RM35

Puff Pastry with Fillet Beef Wellington - RM58
#6 Puff Pastry with Fillet Beef Wellington - RM58

The Duck A'la Orange was rather unique with lots of orange taste to it. It was roast duck in orange zested Curacao sauce served with new potatoes and fresh veggie. However the duck meat itself was a tad too chewy. Instead of serving steaks to us, we had these beef tenderloin is wrapped in the flaky puff pastry stuffed with mushroom chicken with turkey ham. The Puff Pastry with Fillet Beef Wellington tasted okay, crispy on the outside, meaty on the inside.

Vanilla Panna Cota - RM11.90

Apple Crumble - RM13.90
#8 Apple Crumble - RM13.90

Star Cafe's desserts came last, and after the rather heavy meal it was good to have some sweet desserts to wash everything down. The Apple Crumble had these delicious apple chunks baked in nutty topping served with vanilla ice cream and creamy vanilla sauce while the Vanilla Panna Cota was a classic Italian light and creamy dessert with Orange Toffee Sauce. Overall, a good meal, just not as great as I had expected, but do drop by as ambiance is really top notch with a good array of fusion dishes.

  6. I like bitter gourd, one of the few veggies I enjoy so I'll go for that. :)

The duck looks promising too, if they balanced the orange taste so it complements the dish instead of overwhelming it. :D
