Mid Autumn Festival Mooncakes @ Grand Harbour Malaysia

It is still the season for mooncakes, so wait up for more mooncakes postings at this site for the next couple of weeks or so. I was at Grand Harbour Restaurant over at Fahrenheit 88 recently to try out their food as well as their Mid Autumn Festival mooncakes offerings. This post would be all about their mooncakes while a subsequent post will be done to review the food that we had.

Relatively new to the market, Grand Harbour offers 12 types of assorted delightful mooncakes to cater the different taste buds. I find the mooncakes Grand Harbour offered are generally not too overwhelming sweet and fancy in new flavours since their customers are mostly the mature group. This is all good, as I'm not a big fan of fancy flavours. Give me lotus paste mooncakes any day over those special strawberry ones.

Trying out two of Grand Harbour's new mooncake creations, namely the Sakura Chrysanthemum and Shanghai Mooncake Single Yolk got me wanting for more. I rather like how smooth the fillings felt, and with the Shanghai Mooncake, it had that nice crust which crumbles easily in the mouth. The fillings weren't too sweet, perfect for my tastebuds.

No egg yolk, instead in its place were the black sesame, surrounded by delicious white lotus paste. Not bad at all, but I do prefer an egg yolk inside my mooncakes. The black sesame paste gave a distinct flavour to this mooncake.

Grand Harbour sells snow skin mooncakes as well, with a choice of yam paste, white lotus and red bean flavours to choose from. I'm not a big fan of snow skin mooncakes, but served cold they do provide a refreshing change from your usual mooncakes. Good stuff.

  2. It's still a long way to Mid-Autumn Festival but companies are already introducing so many different flavours of mooncakes. I avoid eating too much mooncakes but the creative mooncake packaging interests me.
