From 1st November until 31st December 2014, Utara Coffee house in Armada Hotel PJ will be showcasing an array of American Barbecue delights to tempt the BBQ food lovers. Aptly named 'American BBQ 2014', I had the opportunity to try out some of their dishes the other day. Read on for my review below.
American BBQ Dinner Menu @ Hotel Armada Petaling Jaya, Chicago Beef Ribs - RM48
It was indeed a night of tantalising meaty delights, where I got to sample 6 of their finest offerings from the Armada American BBQ 2014 menu. Shown above is the first dish we had that night, the Chicago Beef Ribs. Served on a white platter, the braised spare rib in sweet onion BBQ sauce had that special soft tenderness that I always look for in a good serving of ribs. Served with mashed potatoes and vegetables on the side, not a bad dish to whet my appetite for more to come.
Texas Osso Bocco - RM43
More meat, this time a big chunk of lamb shank arrived on our table. Named the Texas Osso Bocco, the lamb shank with honey BBQ is marinated and charbroiled to perfection. I personally prefer beef and chicken over lamb, as sometimes the taste and smell can be a tad over the top. Fortunately the ginger mustard BBQ sauce here brought out the flavour without being too overbearing.
Hawaiian Barbeque Mix - RM40
Up next we had a mix of tasty beef, chicken and lamb cutlet, charbroiled and served with pineapple hot pepper sauce. The Hawaiian Barbecue Mix is good for those who wants to try out a mix and mash of everything. My guess is the hawaiian theme comes from the unique pineapple sauce which had a tinge of spiciness from the pepper. I wasn't too delighted over the lamb cutlet though, as I felt it was a tad too tough to the bite.
Latin American Chipotle Spring Chicken - RM32
More meat? This time white meat instead, poultry in the form of the Latin American Chipotle Spring Chicken. One whole piece of chicken, marinated and smoked charbroiled Jalapeno chicken served with potato and farmer's vegetables. Compared to the other dishes, this paled in comparison in terms of the taste, but it is a healthier option to me.
BBQ Salmon Steak - RM32
Armada is pretty generous with the portion for their BBQ Salmon Steak. Marinated with lemon, the salmon steak grill is served with avocado tomato salsa, potato and farmer's vegetables. Pretty good, coming from a non-seafood lover, I felt it is rather tasty.
Fisherman Treat - RM38
Similar to the Hawaiian mix, instead of meat, the Fisherman Treat is a mix and mash of seafood, fish, prawn, mussel and squid served with garden salad and lemony BBQ sauce. Perfect for those who love seafood, grilled and barbecued to give out that slightly burnt flavour.
If you're in the vicinity of Petaling Jaya, do drop by Utara Coffee House Armada Hotel PJ and try out their 'American BBQ' menu soon! I've had my share, and I like it.
