Contraband, a movie to be released soon over here in Malaysia and I had the opportunity to catch the premiere screening at E-Curve last night thanks to invites from Nuffnang. Before catching Contraband, I caught the trailer and liked it for its action packed scenes.
Being Nuffnang's first premiere screening for the new year 2012, I was pretty psyched up for this movie, Contraband, reaching the cinema just in time for ticket collections. I managed to catch up with a number of bloggers, some of which I haven't caught up with recently. It was all good.

Coming back to the movie, Contraband is about a man Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg), a professional smuggler who was nicknamed the Houdini of his trade back in his hey days. The movie kicked off showing Chris retired from the profession with a wife and kids vowing never to do any "job" ever again. Contraband is basically a movie about contrabands, specifically drugs.

All goes well in Chris' retirement plan as he lives life peacefully with the wife Kate Farraday (Kate Beckinsale) until their lives are rudely interrupted by a screwed up drug smuggling attempt by Kate's smaller brother Andy (Caleb Landry Jones). Throwing the drugs overboard a ship, Andy returns home without the drugs which got the boss Tim Briggs (Giovani Ribisi) really angry and all.

Realizing the trouble they're in, Chris knew that the kid, Andy was going to get killed and subsequently his wife Kate had to pay off the debt unless a way is found to get the cash within 2 weeks. Together with his friend Sebastian (Ben Foster), Chris had to do a final job bringing his all the way to Panama in a ship. That's where everything gets really interesting.

Racing against time to get the deeds done, which involved a rather substantial amount of people, Chris brought the viewers along a roller coaster ride of action, explosions and heart-pumping moments. We got to see how the professionals do their smuggling. When Chris' wife and family got harassed by Tim Briggs, that's when the action gets relentless.
I liked this movie for the way the sequence of events were played out. Even though things did not turn out as planned, and there were more than one surprise, I enjoyed how Chris handled each situation. In the end there was even a twist of events, one which wasn't really expected at all. Do check out Contraband once it hits our cinemas, as it is a rather nice watch. I leave you with the trailer to the movie.
