Paul (2011) Special Screening

Thanks to TimeOut KL, I got to catch the free preview screening of Paul over at GSC Cinemas, 1 Utama together with a few blogger friends. I'm never the one to back down from a free movie, even if I haven't actually seen the trailer for this one before the movie. It should be good, I thought to myself. Come on, Paul the alien had the voice of Seth Rogen, chilling alongside co-stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Sigourney Weaver.

Ticket collection was at 8pm, and Kelvin was already there when I arrived. 4 tickets were collected promptly before heading for a quick dinner. Elwyn joint us awhile later at the restaurant. Where did we eat? I'll post all about the restaurant and the food in my next blog post.

TimeOut KL ticket issuers weren't used to being photographed, so they were a bit shy when I approached them saying I wanted a picture of them at the counter. Hence the shy shot below. Hopefully they'll warm up next round!

The tics!

Coming back to the movie (which is rated 18 by the way), Paul is this comedy flick about this alien who came to earth in the '40s. Make no mistake, Paul is not your average ET alien. Paul is a fugitive, celebrity, slacker, joker and alien all rolled into this little ET body. The movie kicked off with our anti-heroes Clive (Nick Frost) and Greame (Simon Pegg), two rather immatured dudes coming all the way from UK to attend a comic convention in USA. This foul mouthed, funny, but sympathetic alien teams up with the 2 nerds and we got to see lots of hilarious laughter inducing scenes.

Paul
Imagine an ET chilling out with the gang, spewing vulgarities, making dirty jokes and you get a rough idea on what Paul is about. Behind all that Paul has a heart of gold as can be seen by him saving the main characters a couple of times. Personally, I laughed out loud at a couple of scenes, as it was so close to home, and to hear it being uttered by an alien is just outrageous. Well that's my side of it I guess, the plot is really very thin and kind of lame, but the characters really bring life to the movie. I rate it a 3 out of 5. Do check out the trailer below to get a feel of this movie.
