Lum Sek Lee Traditional Chinese Sausage From Ipoh
Have you had the usual Claypot Rice before? Well, the one thing I like about the dish would be the generous amounts of meat and of course the chinese sausages contained inside. Last weekend, Janice decided to whip up her variation of claypot rice using the rice cooker, and using some of the Lum Sek Lee Traditional Chinese Sausages given to me a while back.
My yummy lunch last week thanks to Janice |
The Lum Sek Lee traditional chinese sausages came all the way from Ipoh, given to me by my sister in law. What intrigued me about these sausages were the fact the factory has been around for ages and the manufacturer has now gone to the extent of shipping the sausages via post nationwide.

#1 Classic Lap Cheong (Pork Sausage) Product Code: LC001 - RM13 |
The packaging came vacuum packed, with four pairs or eight sticks of thread-less Classic Lap Cheong. Weighing 300gm per pack, it was a whole lot of meat for a mere RM13. There were a couple of other variations of the chinese sausage which was given to me, check them out below.
#2 Classic Yun Cheong (Liver Sausage) Product Code: LC002 - RM13 |
#3 Gui Huo Rou (Preserved Pork Patty) Product Code: LC007 - RM13 |
So what made these Classic Lap Cheong (Pork Sausage) from Ipoh so unique that customers are willing to order it even though they are not in Perak themselves. Well, read on below on my review of its taste after Janice whipped up that "wholesome" meal for me.
Our version of the classic "Claypot Rice" |
Being really good in whipping up nice meals for me, Janice put her skills into using these Lum Sek lee traditional sausages for our home cooked "Claypot Rice". Using two of the sausages given to me, namely the Classic Lap Cheong (Pork Sausage) and the Gui Huo Rou (Preserved Pork Patty), we steamed the rice together with all the ingredients in a rice cooker. I did not take the liver sausage though, as I am not very accustomed to having liver in my meals.
Eggs are a must in these type of dishes |
The chinese sausages which were mixed into the rice cooker came out having a really soft texture. To have a different variation we topped the meal off with some diced Lap Cheong, stir fried to bring out the flavour and crispiness especially around the edge. A couple of whole eggs were broken and added into the mix for that added flavour.
Our home made claypot rice with lots of meat |
All in, I must say it was a very pleasant meal, with the Lum Sek Lee Traditional Chinese Sausage tasting slightly sweeter than the average sausages, but it has that meatier flavour without being too oily. Usually chinese sausages are very oily and oozes oil when put on the frying pan, but here, it was more meat, less fats all round. Good stuff.
