83rd Annual Academy Awards Oscar 2011 Nominations

Image
Saw this in the news the other day on the upcoming 83rd Academy Awards to be held on February 27th 2011 at Hollywood. It's THE award show to watch and learn who will receive the highest honours in movie making.  The official poster A quick search on the net educated me on what the academy awards is all about as well as the Oscars awards that are presented on that glamourous night. I remembered following the live telecast every year on TV, and it is a rather luxurious and fancy show. The most anticipated moment would be when the invited announcer reads the line "And the Oscar goes to...." Oscar Statuettes Upon further digging, I found out that they have already announced the Oscar nominations last week on January 25th. This is where the hype builds up until 27th February's climax. Going through the list, I realize I have watched some of the movies with nominated awards, but there are some I haven't even heard of, which brought me to reality, that I was n

Celcom Sim Card Failure

Image
How long does an average postpaid simcard, or any simcard for that matter lasts? A year, 5 years? I find it amusing that in recent years, I've faced multiple simcard failures. A total of 4 sim cards died on me, and 3 of it weren't even mine, but of my supplementary lines. I'm using Celcom Postpaid by the way. Sim card #1 - (Main number) Died on me after 2 years of usage in 2010. Sim card #2 - (1st supplementary number) Died on my dad after 8 months of usage in 2010. Sim card #3 - (2nd supplementary number) Died after 6 months of usage in 2010. Sim card # 4 - (Main number) Died on me after 5 months of usage in 2011. All the time these simcards were housed in their respective phones. In my case, it never left my iPhone. So how does it just die off? Ok, maybe I might have used my iPhone too extensively, but how do you explain the other 2 cases. My dad rarely uses his phone, and the majority of his calls were from family members. My dead Celcom simcard Due to this, I had

A Simple Meal On A Rainy Day

Image
It has been raining like the whole day, since yesterday evening if I'm not mistaken. Imagine waking up in the morning, and realize you do not have to work, while the rain pours outside your window. Well, that was the scenario for me this morning, and the bed beckoned me back to sleep. Anyway, I woke at around 9.30am, checked this blog for any new comments, checked my friend's blogs, logged in Innit, checked my mails, checked Facebook, etc etc. At around lunch time, I was still reluctant to go out to get lunch. Lucky for me, my fiancee whipped up a simple meal to stuff my stomach with. Thank you, I really appreciate you for not letting me go hungry. Anyway have a look below at my humble meal for lunch today. I'm full now. Thanks! A meal for rainy days Don't get me wrong, normally she will cook up some super 3 dishes meal on weekends, but it so happened the weather today was a bit too comfortable to whip up so much food. Oh and coupled with the fact we haven&#

A Visit To Nuffnang KL Office

Image
Last week, got myself a free Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid Sim card courtesy of Nuffnang, Well, in the same email, I was requested to collect it from Nuffnang KL office. Now, I've never been to their office before, but with some help from Mr Google, and my trusty Garmin GPS, I reached my destination safely. Nuffnang Sdn Bhd (762669-K) 12B-5 & 12B-6, Heritage House, 33 Jalan Yap Ah Shak, 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Office No : +6 03 2694 8828 Fax No : +6 03 2694 8824 Nuffnang KL office is housed in this big building named Heritage House. It does look kind of "heritage"ful? I managed to take a few pictures of the building, as well as Nuffnang office itself further down. Heritage House Upon entering the office on the 12th floor, 12B to be exact, I was greeted by one of staff there. A sweet looking lady who had to come to work on a weekend just to pass some freebie to guys like me. I was thankful Nuffnang allowed me to collect the sim card

Freebies At Sungai Wang Plaza

Image
Freebies! Who doesn't love freebies? Well, I was at Sungai Wang Plaza today, and it so happened at the centre court, there was an event organized by Circle Media sponsored by Wing Heong BBQ Meat. Unfortunately, this time, the freebies was for non-muslim only, as it contained BBQ dried meat. Queuing up and filling up the form As usual, everytime I see people handing out free stuffs, yours truly will get curious and try to get one himself! So, I joint the queue which grew very long, very quickly. All we had to do was to fill up our name, IC and email id, and each of us got one bag with a slice of dried meat in it. Some of the CNY deco at SG Wang Plaza Free Stuff! Now if only they have these type of events daily at all shopping complexes . Oh, this reminds me of the food section when I go groceries shopping where the promoters hand out free food samples!

Wangsa Bowl At Wangsa Walk Mall

Image
TGIF! Thank God it's Friday again! Today during my lunch break, which was longer than usual due to Friday prayers, I joint my colleagues for a round of bowling. The venue was at Wangsa Walk Mall . They call the bowling alley "Wangsa Bowl". The place is fairly new, so the atmosphere and colours are still vibrant. Wangsa Bowl It was fun, especially when playing with colleagues. We took up a total of 5 lanes , and the time just flew by. Before we knew it, it was time to rush back to work. Anyway, one of my colleague played above average today, and wanted to get his score card up, so to make him happy, have a look below. Won A Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid Sim Card With RM100 Credit

Image
Again, I'm pleasantly surprised today with another email from Nuffnang. They have been very nice to me recently, with all the movie premieres but I think this takes the icing on the cake. A brief background story is in order. On the 11th of January, Nuffnang held a contest on Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid. All us Nuffnangers had to do was to leave a comment as creatively as possible on why we want to experience Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid. I love doing comments contest as it is much simpler than writing a full fledged blog. Have a look below on my entry for this short contest. # Isaac Tan Says: January 21st, 2011 at 7:15 pm Why do I want to experience Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid? Come on! My middle name is Tune Talk, they call me Isaac “Tune Talk” Tan! Say what? Yeap, you heard it right, say my name, call my name, utter my name, and don’t get it wrong! And why in the world do I call myself that? That’s because I want to always experience the excitement that Tune Talk Mobile Prepa

40 Drunkards In A Room

Image
What do you get when you stuff 40 dudes (plus a few dudets) into a room and give them lots of alcohol on the pretense of having a Chinese new year gathering plus farewell party plus birthday celebration? Well, you get a lot of red faces plus a hell of a noisy room! Well, there we were at Six Happiness Restaurant near Ampang Waterfront from 8.30pm until 11pm having fun, singing away. I think it was fun as it gave the chance for everybody to release the tension from work and just let go. Oh, I forgot to mention, this was a Chinese New Year yearly gathering with colleagues, except this year there was a farewell included for one of the bosses, plus 2 birthday boys. My dear colleagues I wanted to take a picture of the dishes, but due to the number of guys at each table, the moment the food was served, it was snapped up before you could say "Kampai!"  I did manage to snap one picture of the birthday cake. What can I say, I love my colleagues, especially when they'r

If I Were In Burlesque

Image
A week back, I joint another one of Nuffnang's contests to win movie tickets. This time, the contest was fairly simple. All we had to do was to leave a comment in their website by completing the sentence "If I were in Burlesque, I'd be a star because..." as creatively as possible. It sounded simple, but it gets harder if you're a guy. Come on, the stars of Burlesque are mostly ladies, beautiful ladies, so how does a guy become a star in Burlesque? Well, my comment for the contest entry is as below. Don't laugh too loud. If I were in Burlesque, I’d be a star because I’m just like the girl who started from scratch, and climbed her way up to the top! However I’m the male version of the hot chick Christina Aguilera, let’s refer to me as the cool HUNK, Isaac Aguilera!  Initially, nobody would even notice me serving up their drinks as the bartender. Oh, I haven’t told you yet? In Burlesque, I start off as the bartender, shaking up those cocktails while mo

Weird Place For A Car Number Plate

Image
Today, I came back from lunch to see this car which strikes me as being quite interesting due to the way the owner placed his car number plates. Have a look below. If you haven't noticed, his number plates were propped up inside the car, and not fixed outside as per normal. Interesting and it made me think of the possible reasons he or she may have done that. It didn't take me long to figure out the reason. The owner just changed his original myvi rear bonnet to an imported Passo rear bonnet. What he didn't do was stick back the Perodua emblem, and get a number plate holder!

Cheap And Tasty Chinese Dishes At Wangsa Maju

Image
I just had to blog about this place, especially now with the increase in food prices. For the past few months, I've been eating my dinner more times than the occasional treat at this roadside chinese restaurant / coffeeshop. The restaurant is located in section 2 Wangsa Maju KL, in Taman Desa Setapak. To be exact it's just beside Guardians. Anyway, I had my dinner there again, ordering my favourite, which was the sweet and sour fish. Have a look below on the portion, I ordered the smallest portion because there were only 2 of us.I love the way they cook the fish, crispy on the outside, yet we still can taste the tender fish meat inside. Sweet and sour fish We ordered 1 plate of rice to share, because the serving of the rice is huge to say the least. For me, I am not able to finish one plate of their rice. We only ordered 2 dishes because if we had ordered a third, it would have been too much! The second dish was the "Kong Pou Toufu", also the smallest serving.

The Green Hornet Premiere

Image
I just came back from the premiere showing of The Green Hornet sponsored by Nuffnang. Nuffnang was so generous as to give out these free tickets tonight. This was the 3rd premiere screening that I have attended in a row courtesy of Nuffnang, the first was The Season Of The Witch , second Faster and tonight's offering The Green Hornet. Mr Ticket Issuer (Robb) As usual I was there early, the ticket counter was to be opened at 8pm for the 9pm show. I reached at around 7.40pm. This round I was lucky to be one of the first few in line, and got myself a cute little freebie. Only the first 10 or so in line got it. Until now I'm not really sure what it is, should be a torchlight of some sort. I'll need to get some batteries in it before it'll function. Have a look below. Freebies! Back to the movie, a word of advice, don't go into the cinema expecting The Green Hornet to be a "Batman" superhero type of movie. Instead think along the lines of "

Lion Dance At Centre Court Midvalley Megamall

Image
Tong Tong Tong Chiang! The sound from the drums were deafening at around 2pm today at Midvalley Megamall. There was a lion dance troupe performing at the centre court, the crowd was already very big by the time I reached. Hence I could not get a nice shot, but I tried my best to squeeze in. Lion dance in action Midvalley Megamall's chinese new year decoration this year was red themed. Red, red and red everywhere. The lion dance really liven up the atmosphere of the shopping mall, lifting everybody's shopping spirits. The whole lion dance took a good 25 minutes. Check out the pictures below of the crowd. Loud drums for the CNY spirit! Well that's about all guy and girls. Just wanted to share what I experienced today at Midvalley. I think they will have this lion dance everyday until chinese new year. Oh, and if you want some free mandarin oranges, be sure to wait till the lions finish dancing then collect from their mouths. CNY Deco

Orlando Clothes Shopping Day

Image
That was the day I went from being "surviving financially" to "broke financially". The story was, I needed some new clothes for my wedding, work, etc, and the last time I actually went clothes shopping was like a hundred years ago. One fine weekend, I went with my future wife to Sungai Wang Plaza to do exactly that, clothes shopping. The Orlando shop was located in Sungai Wang, a quiet little unassuming shop. Little did I know this shop was going to take hundreds of my hard earned cash. Ouch. Orlando Boutique at Sungai Wang Plaza I was impressed with the quality of the shirts. The price wasn't very cheap but that's what you get for quality, I suppose. Well, one thing led to another, and I ended up forking out close to RM660 for everything. Mind you, this figure was after discounts. And to think I just wanted to get 1 or 2 clothes for myself. Below were all the items we got that day, inclusive of 2 gifts (1 set box of Orlando pen, belt, and wallet,

PTPTN Confirmation On Lowered Interest Rate From 3% to 1%

Image
End of last year, 2010 I was getting quite depressed over my Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) Repayment. If you were to check out that link, you'll notice I owe them RM75k already, an increase of RM11k from my initial debt of RM64k. It's not I don't pay back at all, it's just that I was not paying back regularly. At that time, I made it a point to apply for the interest change to PTPTN. A 1% interest rate is definately better than 3%, that's a reduction of 2%!. Initially when I took up this loan in 1999 it was at 4%. I submitted the application mid of last month, and was pleasantly surprised when PTPTN sent me an email yesterday confirming that they have already changed my interest rate. Sweet. Email confirmation So for those that have not applied for the rate adjustment, you could do it now. But bear in mind, from what I heard, PTPTN may start auto cut from our monthly salaries very soon.

Tokyo Disneyland

Image
I had the chance to visit Tokyo a few years back for a business trip, fully paid for by my previous company. What do you do when you're in Tokyo? Visit its attractions of course! And visit I did, one of them would be Tokyo Disneyland. Me against the backdrop of the disneyland castle Don't mind me, I had these pictures in my PC hard drive for years, and since it's the weekends , I took the opportunity to share it here on my blog. The tickets prices weren't very cheap A brief background on this place, Tokyo Disneyland is a 115 acre theme park located in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan, near Tokyo. If compared with the other Disneylands in other countries, this one could rank one of the smaller Disneylands, but the fun and magic remains the same. It was the first Disney parks to be built outside of the United States and opened April 15th 1983. Disneyland Tokyo I cannot remember exactly how much I paid to enter this place, but if I'm not wrong it was close to RM1

Won 2 Tickets To The Premiere Screening Of The Green Hornet

Image
Thank god it's Friday! TGIF. I've always loved to utter this every time the end of the week is here. Come on, who doesn't love the weekends? But today was even lovelier because of the email below. The email Thanks to Nuffnang, I will get the chance to attend another movie premiere. This time it is going to be for this new movie "The Green Hornet". How did I get this tickets? Well it was a contest conducted by Nuffnang, and 70 winners would be chosen to get these tickets. My blog entry was lucky enough to be picked to win. Link to my blog post for  this contest -  If I Were The Green Hornet The Green Hornet

De Palma Ampang Preview Of Linton University College

Image
I was called to join in at an education preview conducted by Linton University College held at De Palma Hotel Ampang last Tuesday. The preview was scheduled to start at 8.15pm at level 1 of the hotel, Nuri 3 conference room. It was my first time to these type of education previews and also my first time to De Palma Hotel Ampang. It's a pretty decent hotel, located in Ampang. A total of 26 families arrived to listen to the education talk conducted by my uncle Twinny. The hall was suppose to fit only 55 people, but we had up to 65 people hence it was packed. One family took an average of 3 seats comprising of the parents and their sons or daughters. Education Preview The talk went on for the next 3 hours. My uncle, the speaker have great skills in public presentation as he could keep the audiences' attention for 3 hours. Overall it was a good night, and I must say every family sitting there learnt a lot about the courses offered and also gained knowledge about our current

My Ride Auto Grooming Wangsa Melawati

Image
I have always been kind of lazy to wash my car, not so much of laziness but the lack of space. My rented house in Wangsa Maju does not give me much open area to wash it. Therefore, I'm always on a look out for good, affordable and most importantly clean car wash outlet. Well for the past 2 years or so, I've been a loyal customer of this outlet in Wangsa Melawati. The name of this car wash outlet is called My Ride Auto Grooming, which is kind of familiar if you ask me. It reminded me of the MTV show "Pimp My Ride". But most importantly is the service and effort they put in to ensure your ride is clean and shiny when you drive out of the place. My Ride Car Wash Outlet at Wangsa Melawati My Ride Auto Grooming provides a multitude of services and items other than the car wash itself ranging from waxing and polishing to car carpets. I've utilized the polishing services on a few occasions, and they never fail to impress. I was there 2 days ago to give my car a go
