MBO Cinemas’ Blood Donation Drive Exceeds Target!

Here's some wonderful news that popped up in my email inbox recently. Now I've been supporting MBO Cinemas' and their frequent blood donation campaigns every year. It's good news then that I got to know MBO Cinemas’ Blood Donation Drive exceed this year’s target of collecting over 5000 pints of blood, making the campaign a tremendous success. Read on below!

The campaign themed “Find the Hero In You” attracted 5907 donors who responded to the call to top up the depleting blood supply which had been running low at the National Blood Bank after the recent fasting month and Hari Raya celebrations. Since its introduction in 2014, the annual blood donation campaign has successfully collected more than 15,000 pints of blood, saving an estimated 45,000 lives, all thanks to MBO customers and fans who rose up to the challenge. “We are over the moon to see Malaysians’ willingness to do something selfless and donate blood. We always knew that we could count on our fans. This year, they truly exceeded our expectations”, said MBO’s Director of Marketing and Sales, Mr Cheah Chun Wai.

He added, “Through the collection of 5907 blood pints this year, it makes us even more determined to continue organizing the blood donation campaign for years to come.”

Donors who successfully donated blood were met with a pleasant surprise when they were presented with an exclusive mystery goodie bag from MBO Cinemas as an appreciation for their noble gesture.

High Number of First Time Donors

“I have never donated blood because I was afraid of the process. However, the realization that Malaysians in need could benefit from this blood donation drive encouraged me and gave me the strength to overcome my fear. To my surprise, donating blood was not as scary and painful as I had imagined it to be. I will definitely donate more regularly in the future”, said Koh Shu Ding, when met at MBO’s Blood Donation Drive at The Starling Mall, Uptown Damansara.

Regular Blood Donations Needed

An important message the campaign also tries to convey is the importance of giving blood regularly so that the blood stock can be kept at sufficient levels before an emergency arises. Only 2.2% out of 30 million Malaysians donate blood – which is a far cry from the 3.5% – 5% recorded in more developed countries. On average, government and private hospitals in Malaysia need to prepare around 2,000 bags of blood to support the needs of 1,000 patients per day.

As such, Malaysians who missed MBO’s Blood Donation Drive 4.0 can still make a difference by donating blood at the National Blood Bank. The schedule for donation at the National Blood Bank are as follows;

Monday – Wednesday : 7.30am – 5.30pm
Thursday & Friday : 7.30am – 8.00pm
Saturday & Sunday : 8.00am – 4.00pm

Be a hero, donate blood, save lives!
