Penang Street Food Delicacies - My Favourites

Char Kuey Teow, Fried Oyster, Loh Bak, these are a few of the local cuisine that Penang has to offer, and every time I'm back to my hometown there will surely be one food trip to try these out. With the travel ban and all, I just can’t wait for it to be lifted soon so I can savour all these yummy food again!

Penang Street Food Delicacies - My Favourites

Of course, I do not have them daily as some of these dishes are deep fried and definitely not good for the body if taken excessively, but they are delicious though! Good Penang food makes the world go round :) Check out below on some of my fav Penang noms, and where to get them! Do note these are my preferences, and it may differ slightly from your favourite dishes, coz’ everyone’s different. 

'Oh Chien' - Penang Fried Oysters

‘Oh chien’ or Fried oysters and ‘Loh Bak’ aka assorted meat, two of my must-try dishes and both can be found at Red Garden Food Paradise which is located near upper Penang road; very near to the happening night spots of Penang. One platter of the sinful fried oysters, and you’re in heaven. Love the flavours of the egg plus fried oysters, going really well with the Loh Bak platter on the side. 

Loh bak aka Assorted Meat

If you have not tried Penang ‘Loh Bak’ then you’re missing out on some of the nicest deep fried assorted meat dish. One platter usually comes with different meat complete with tofu, taiwan sausages, century eggs and more. You get to choose which meat you want for the stall owner to deep fried it for you! 

Penang Curry Mee

Another one of my favourite Penang street food would be the always yummylicious Penang Curry Mee. I had a really good one over at Sungai Pinang Food Court. The location of this food court is near the intersection between Sg Pinang and the Jelutong Expressway in Penang. The serving for curry mee in Penang usually aren’t very big, but the taste is realllllly good! Check it out below, with the fragrant santan infused curry soup, and the generous amount of ingredients inside. I love mine with pork blood added in. 

Penang Assam Laksa

Any street food dining in Penang won’t be complete without the assam laksa. For me, I’ll usually head back to my neighbourhood famous Penang Air Itam Laksa stall in Air Itam. I like my assam laksa thick with lots of fish in it, just like how my mother prepares it, and here you’ll get just that! Good stuff all round. 

Penang Cendol

Dessert done well after a heavy meal in Penang would usually involve the Cendol, sweet sweet traditional delicacy.
