SOI 19 Thai Restaurant (19th Street Kanom) Review @ Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur

My first time over at Soi 19, just when I was craving for some delicious Thai cuisine. Interestingly, Soi 19 Thai Restaurant (19th Street Kanom) located at Kuchai Lama serves some really nice Jim Jom (Thai Hot Pot) which we did not hesitate to order that evening. They have a range of nice Thai cuisine as well. Do read on to see what we tried at Soi 19.

Located at Kuchai Business Centre, we were invited by Racheal of FoodiLIFECious for an evening of great noms at Soi 19 Thai Restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant was distinctly Thai, complete with the wooden table and chairs. Did you know Soi in Thai means “street”? In fact, when I arrived at the restaurant, I was pleased to know just beside there’s another restaurant under the same owner.

We kicked off our meal with Mookata, a two in one grill and steamboat. Almost akin to those Korean BBQ, but in a more refined way, these are really good! The staff helped to prepare and cook for us, but of course if you want to do the cooking yourself, it’s more fun that way!

Delicious!

Sides

While waiting for our Mookata to be ready, we tried the Nam Tok Kor Moo Yang which consists of BBQ Pork Neck with Brasil Leaf. I’m in love with this dish, and it did make a good appetiser for the mains to come.

Do try their Pad Thai as well, which to me is a must-try dish at any Thai food establishment. Here at Soi19, their Pad Thai is done just right, not too sourish, and with the chilli flakes at the side, you can customise how spicy you want it to be.

MAMA Noodle

A noodle dish for all, don’t forget to try out Soi19’s MAMA Noodle dishes. Opt for the spicy version, or the non spicy one, both are equally tasty, with lots of ingredients and meat thrown in. This is part of their new menu, so be sure to try it out guys.

JIM JOM

Sounds really catchy, the Thai Hot Pot is named Jim Jom, and if you haven’t tried it out before, be sure to order the Pork Set like we did! They have both the chicken and pork set (we tried both!) and it’s served it these traditional claypot. Burning flames underneath, the clear herbal broth is soon filled with wonderful pork meat mixed with fresh egg. Lots of vegetables were thrown into the mix as well.

If you are into a more unique taste, don’t forget to request for Thai beer to be added into the pot! The beer does sweeten the overall taste of the broth, good stuff indeed. The broth can be refilled unlimited number of times, so sip away to your heart’s content.

This was my first time trying out the Thai Mookata and Jim Jom. I must say, they both satisfied my cravings for Thai cuisine. I highly recommend you to try them out for yourselves the next time you’re in the vicinity of Kuchai Lama. SOI 19 Thai Restaurant (19th Street Kanom) @ Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur, I will be back again soon!

  1. I love Thaio. The steamboat looks rather Korean though - not a fan of Korean, gimme Thai anytime!
