InterContinental Kuala Lumpur all-day dining restaurant Serena Brasserie presents A Journey of Heritage: With the Celebrated "Kampong Boys". The Ramadan feast will feature dishes from the "kampong boys" among other dishes. It is a unique theme, at least to me. Check out what they featured below!

Experience authentic heritage flavours signifying the personalised journey of the celebrated "kampong boys". There are five of the "Kampong boys", each of them with their own signature dishes. Check them out below.

Executive Sous Chef, Abdul Razak introduced his signature dish, the Laksa Johor. Describing his homemade delight as rich and flavourful as opposed to the sour savour of customary laksa variations, Chef Razak owes the signature recipe to his ancestral roots.

Identifying himself as a true kampong boy, Chef de cuisine, Suhalmi Tasir describes his favourite kampong dish, the Nasi Minyak Rendang Tok. Slightly sweet and full of spice, Chef Suhalmi relates the dish to uplifting sentiments, whereby family members and neighbours come together to whip up the cuisine in an enormous pot over a strong blazing flame.

Banquet chef, Yusof Salamat brought out his Asam Pedas daging tetel. Citing that his robust palate for such flavours is due to his family preferences his young, Chef Yusof notes that the asam pedas daging tetel is a spin-off to the customary asam pedas cuisine, which utilises the fish. This one has additional beef, to be savoured with the soup bursting with flavours.
Laksa Johor |
Malay chef, Yusman Yahaya introduced his Udang Masak Lemak Cili Padi dish next. Relating the cuisine with his love for spices, Chef Yusman correlates the udang masak lemak cili padi to cheery memories of his mum's cooking. It does look enticing in the pot.

Executive pastry chef, Chan Eng Hua was up next, giving to us his nostalgic pastry of apam balik. Sweet, it has a very nice fluffy texture, with an aromatic smell. Not bad at all.

Further harmonising the exquisite experience of traditional home cooked savour, three menus are available on rotation. There's a rather extensive buffet spread featuring salad stations, classic favourites like gulai kawah tulang rusuk, main courses such as gulai ikan tongkol, rendang pedas ayam, and desserts.

Bendang Campor |
Salads and Ulam |
Saving the best for last, there's even a dusun stall featuring tropical fruit attractions and fresh durians! Separated from the dining space, the "dusun" featuring durians is placed further away so as not to disturb the non-durian patrons.
