Astro B.Yond Personal Video Recorder Wi-Fi (PVR) - My Experience
In recent years, I've noticed nearly every household around my area have installed Astro, which is basically the closest thing to meet the couch potato's perfect living dream (ie: me). Now I've been a subscriber to Astro for the past 7 years or so, even opening up a line for my parents' house on top of mine. Well, did you know now Astro has this latest Astro B.Yond Personal Video Recorder Wi-fi Enabled (PVR) service, which is just what the doctor ordered. Check out my experience in using it in recent weeks.
Astro B.Yond Personal Video Recorder Wi-Fi (PVR) - My Experience |
Since I was already on Astro, the upgrade to Astro B.Yond Personal Video Recorder Wi-fi Enabled (PVR) was fairly simple, with a change in the decoder and the satellite dish by the Astro technician. So what's so special about this new device? I mean, it is an upgrade, so there should be a busload of new features and stuff right? Read on then, on the really cool new features I got to play with.
My all-new Astro’s Personal Video Recorder (PVR) comes with a myriad of new features, some of which were pretty cool ones, such as the ability to record any channel, TV shows or movies on its large hard disk (500GB) which translates to over 290 hours of SD and up to 100 hours of HD recording. Imagine how many hours of movies I can download to keep and watch at a later time!

Rewind, Pause Live TV, with Dual Tuner and a really large Hard Disk Capacity |
On top of the HD channels, and the large hard disk capacity, the new Astro B.Yond PVR has this Dual Tuner function as well. What is it? Well, basically it means I can record up to two channels simultaneously, while watch a pre-recorded channel! That's pretty nifty if you asked me. Gone are the days where I had to choose which channel to watch, as I could virtually watch 3 channels at a go, albeit at a slightly later time.

Series Link, Record On The Go, and VOD |
Another cool feature which can be found on the latest Astro B.Yond Personal Video Recorder Wi-Fi (PVR) would be the Series Link feature. With just one click, ALL the episodes of my favourite TV programmes are queued and set to record automatically. This is pretty handy especially for Janice who follows very closely all the TV dramas shown on Astro.
Playing back my recorded movies is a breeze, where I can fast forward or rewind to my heart's content |
Astro B.Yond Video On Demand |
Did you know Astro B.Yond has these video on demand thingy, or VOD for short? From as low as RM1 per episode, their new interactive service lets you select programmes from a library at any time. That's a lot of hours of entertainment from blockbuster movies to all-time classics in both standard and high definition (6000 TV shows and movies available, and counting)
There are also free content available for download. Check out these free content below!
Game of Thrones – Season 1, 2, 3

Astro B.Yond Video On Demand on the TV Screen |
I did buy for myself a few of the latest releases which I missed out in the cinemas due to my work commitments. The VOD gives me the flexibility for me to choose the type of content I want & when I want to watch. When wi-fi is enabled, I have access to both Astro B.Yond VOD as well as their very unique Catch Up TV.
Astro recently updated their TV Guide as well, with some of the updated feature which I will take the liberty to list it down below (which can also be found at the link: www.astro.com.my/epg)
- A Multilingual TV Guide to provide a richer and more meaningful experience for customers who prefer to find and watch their favourite programmes in a preferred language, whether in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin or Tamil.
