Gurney Paragon Mall Penang - Food & Shopping Galore

Gurney Paragon Mall, the name itself exude a grand feeling of sorts, especially so when I had a glimpse of the building area. A couple of weeks back, I was back in Penang with the family and we took a chance to visit Gurney Paragon Mall Penang for our much needed break and leisure time. Gurney Paragon is set to be the new premier shopping, entertainment, office and luxury residential address in Penang. It is a mixed development comprising a 700,000 sq ft shopping mall, an office tower, and two high-end residential towers.

It is located on Gurney Drive, a beachfront esplanade that enjoys stunning ocean views and cool sea breezes. But most uniquely, it is built around and inspired by the former St. Joseph's Novitiate - converted into St. Jo's, an area for stylish restaurants and cafes steeped in the architecture of Penang's heritage.

Entering the vicinity of Gurney Paragon Mall, I must say I love the colonial look of the building, and to house an upmarket stylish mall inside is pretty cool. The whole area housed various eateries, restaurants, food and beverage outlets, clothing, watch shops, fashion, basically a one stop mall for the folks of Penang. Janice and I had our lunch first at Miam Miam Cafe to try out their famous French Toast as well as their other delectable desserts.

My initial thoughts when seeing the Miam Miam Cafe French Toast was that it had a really huge serving, served in a bowl, with maple syrup and a dallop of home made whipped cream. Love the texture of the bread as it is crunchy on the outside but fluffy and tasty inside. The bread itself felt sweet to the bite even before adding the maple syrup which just adds to that yummy taste. It is no wonder that folks heaps praises on this french toast.

Being outside the mall was one thing, with the traditional colonial building feel, but the moment we entered the shopping mall, we were literally brought into the modern world of shopping. The moment we entered the front entrance, there was the Victoria's Secret outlet which sort of welcomed us to the mall and set the mood for our shopping spree.

We were actually there to check out some kid's clothing for Baby Martin, but en-route to the upper floors we were stopped by this cheerful dude passing out balloons from Philosophy in Sephora, promising some complimentary freebies to exchange at their outlet. Sephora, why not check out the outlet as well we thought.

A quick round inside Sephora and we were on our way to the upper floors to check out these kids clothing outlet. Again, while walking up the staircase we were again distracted with some other outlets, which made me think that Paragon Mall do have their fair share of shopping outlets to cater to every shopper. 

Kidstyle Gurney Paragon Mall

Located on the upper floors of Gurney Paragon Mall, Kidstyle had a really bright a colourful interior with a variety of kids clothing. As Baby Martin has crossed the 1 year old mark, he has begun to start wearing big boys' clothing. Janice and I do love browsing for kids clothing every now and then whenever we are out shopping at malls.

With various brands and styles, we were spoilt for choice, especially on boy clothing. There were discounts too, which is a very good thing in my books. Check out how happy Janice looked holding one of the shirt in her hands.

There's currently a storewide sale on selected items at KidStyle Gurney Paragon Mall from now until 2nd April 2014, so be sure to check them out for those bargain item for your children. Truth to be told, I sometimes wonder why a child's clothing can be pricier than grown ups clothing in recent times. Anyway moving along, we checked out the shop next door, the Korean Lifestyle & Kids Boutique, also on the 5th floor.

Korean Lifestyle & Kids Boutique

I was told by the sales assistant at Korean Lifestyle & Kids Boutique that nearly all the items sold at the boutique has been imported from Korea. So if you have a deep love for all things Korean, then this is the place to visit in Gurney Paragon Mall Penang. The boutique shop itself is divided into two section, one selling kids items, and the other lifestyle and beauty products, all from Korea.

Of course, being a Korean lifestyle shop as well, there were beauty products on display, and the rather sought after korean face beauty masks being sold as well. Like I said, if you're into Korean products, and love everything Korean after watching all the lovey dovey dramas, then this shop will meet most if not all of your needs.

Overall it was a really nice and relaxing day out with Janice at Gurney Paragon Mall Penang. I must say they do have a rather wide variety of shops to visit, even though I prefer more actually. It is pretty cool that on the ground floor of Paragon Mall, there is the Swiss Watch Gallery, a place I could actually spend a lot of time just ogling at all those beautiful luxury timepieces.
