Vietnam House @ 1Utama Shopping Centre

Vietnamese food, now this is something which I have not had for some time. A couple of weeks back, I had the opportunity to dine over at Vietnam House in 1Utama Shopping Centre to try out their dishes. Located at the old wing on the 2nd floor, the restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine complete with the traditional decor.

Reaching Vietnam House a tad too late that night, we missed the first dish, but it was good that we still got to enjoy the remaining Vietnamese dishes. Upon entering the premise, I was taken in by the decor, which had this traditional feel to it. Do check out the dishes that we had that night.

Special Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup - RM13.90
#1 Special Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup - RM13.90

We were served the Special Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup as part of the appetizer, and I would say it was rather nice. I particularly liked the springy beef balls. Home-made Vietnamese noodles were found inside the tasty soup. Served with basil, lemon, bean sprout and fresh chilli, I would think this piping hot dish was the perfect start to an evening of Vietnamese cuisine.

Braised Chicken in Fresh Coconut Juice with Egg served in Claypot - RM16.90
#2 Braised Chicken in Fresh Coconut Juice with Egg served in Claypot - RM16.90

Up next was this poultry dish, the Braised Chicken in Fresh Coconut Juice with Egg. Served in a claypot, it does look very traditional, however not very appetizing to see. However upon tasting this dish, I was certain the coconut juice played a big part in bringing out the taste.

Vietnam House Special XL Bamboo Fried Rice - RM29.90
#3 Vietnam House Special XL Bamboo Fried Rice - RM29.90

How often do you get fried rice served in these long bamboos? Well, this was my first time seeing such a "long" fried rice dish being served. The Vietnam House Special XL Bamboo Fried Rice was indeed unique, where the rice was stir fried and served with prawns, and eggs. The taste however was not exactly too my liking as I would have preferred a stronger taste. To put it in simple terms, the dish was just too mild.

Deep Fried Seabass (whole fish) with Spicy Assam Sauce - RM44.90
#4 Deep Fried Seabass (whole fish) with Spicy Assam Sauce - RM44.90

Vietnam House's Deep Fried Seabass (whole fish) with Spicy Assam Sauce was served fried to a crisp. I actually preferred steamed fish to deep fried ones as with steamed fish, we could actually taste the freshness of the fish. It had a mix of sourness and spiciness all rolled into one.

Grilled Skewed Chicken in Bamboo Tube

If you don't know yet, I am a big fan of our Malaysian satays, and can never get enough of it. Here at Vietnam House, we had these really generous bits of chicken meat skewered with vegetables served in a bamboo tube similar to the previous fried rice. The Grilled Skewed Chicken in Bamboo Tube was a mix of taste, with lots of spices thrown in. Served hot, one stick is never enough.

I guess that pretty much sums up my visit to Vietnam House at 1 Utama Shopping Centre. The dinner crowd there on a weekday seems decent enough. Do drop by the restaurant should you suddenly have a craving for Vietnamese cuisine in between shopping sprees.

  2. But the food looks not bad eh? I agree with the fried fish - better eat steamed fish to know the freshness. Fried ones can be rotten expired fish!
