Nam Heong Pavilion Elite KL - Have A Taste of Ipoh White Coffee

cDid you know there's a Nam Heong Vintage outlet right here at Pavilion Elite Kuala Lumpur? Right in the middle of the city, at the new Pavilion Elite, the outlet is located on the 8th floor. For easier access, just take the lift straight up and you're there! Now I've tried their original outlet in Ipoh before, and it was good. (Nam Heong Food Court @ Ipoh SoHo) What did we try this round? Read on then.

Nam Heong Vintage at Pavilion Elite basically brings the original concept from the Nam Heong Food Court in SoHo Ipoh with an addition of adding unto the menu some of the really good stuff from days gone by. They serve really good original Ipoh white coffee too on the menu.

Let's start ordering, shall we?

I had the iced version of Namheong Ipoh White Coffee, yum!
I had the iced version of Namheong Ipoh White Coffee (RM4.80) , yum!

Nam Heong White Coffee is now at several major shopping malls in and around KL and Selangor areas, with more to come very soon. Nam Heong is non-halal though, so that's the main difference between this establishment and the more generic Old Town White Coffee. Don't get me started on Old Town, as Nam Heong is leaps and bounds better.

Ordering is a breeze!
Ordering is a breeze!

Ordering from their wide range of noms at Nam Heong is a breeze. We could choose from their advance POS system using an iPad, from their signature items like Chicken Rice, Prawn Mee, Dry Curry Noodle, the signature Ipoh Gei Si Hor Fun and more! Too easy. Be wary though, as when it comes to peak hour, the crowd can be a lot and waiting time may increase.

Dim Sum

Crispy Prawn Roll - RM6.50
Crispy Prawn Roll - RM6.50

Two of my favourite dim sum dish from Nam Heong, the Nam Heong Egg Tart as well as the delectable Crispy Prawn Roll. In fact, no matter which dim sum place I go to, these two, plus the one below, the Siew Mai would be my top 3 choices. Nam Heong did not disappoint, as the egg tart was really good, fluffy on the sides, and smooth egg inside. It was a tad too sweet for me though. The Crispy Prawn Roll contained generous amounts of fresh prawns too, satisfying the 'chinaman' in me, value for money!

Pricing was on the premium side if you asked me, but the taste were akin to those famous dim sum stalls outside. I had their Siew Mai together with the other dim sum items. These are just appetizers before my mains arrive, it's all good! Do try out their steamed dim sum too when you're dining at Nam Heong Vintage.

Loving my plate of Char Kuay Teow!

As there were only two us of dining there that evening, we could not actually order everything off the menu, so I literally chose the ones I liked. Tried out the Penang Fried Kuay Teow. It was really, really flavourful, complete with lots of pork lard inside. If only it wasn't so oily, this would have been a really awesome dish. Nevertheless it's good, and who cares about oil when you're having tasty food like these.

Prawn noodles, which has loads of "prawn" flavours in the soup. This is part of their Vintage menu offerings. We personally liked the addition of char siew inside. I did however felt the flavours weren't exactly what I'm used to, maybe too much prawn shells being boiled into the soup? it just seems a bit off. Janice loves it though.

Deluxe Signature Chicken Rice

If the noodles do not suffice, go for Nam Heong's Deluxe Signature Chicken Rice for your fill of aromatic rice and sweet yummy steamed chicken. It's a meal on its own, so don't be like us, order this and have your fill. We ordered so many dishes just to have it between us two!

Dessert!

We ended our rather heavy meal at Nam Heong Vintage @ Pavilion Elite Kuala Lumpur with dessert in the form of some cold sweet delightful Deluxe Rasin Sweet Soup. Such a refreshing end to our evening out. All Ipoh delicacies under one roof and more! This a concept which I find to be really good. Add in the wonderful ambiance, I would think this is a very good spot to bring your family, clients, or business partners for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  5. As an Ipohite myself, when we eat, we need the street ambience as well, which is not available inside a mall. But I guess, when you don't have an option, you'd take what's offered.
