Elephant Rock Restro Bar @ Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya

#RockTheGajah , you know you're in for a good time when this is used to describe the new Elephant Rock Restro Bar @ Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya. I was there the other day to sample their fares, and I must say, their food is really good! Located in Aman Suria, Elephant Rock has been building up a rather large fan base of loyal customers even though they've only been in operation for a couple of months. Check out what we had that afternoon.

Why the name Elephant Rock?

The interior itself is pretty straightforward, with tables on the side, and a stone counter top. The logo is an elaphant, an overall ambiance is pretty good. From what I was told, there is two versions on how Elephant Rock got its name. Version number one tells the story of the Batu Gajah town. It is associated with a rock in the Kinta river which is shaped like the elephants head when the tide is low.

Another myth is it got its name from a Mother elephant who rammed and derailed a train to save her calves that were in the path of the approaching train. I prefer this version.

Soup, Tapas & Bar Snacks

Creamy Mushroom Soup - RM15
Creamy Mushroom Soup - RM15

We kicked off our meal with the Creamy Mushroom Soup which was served piping hot. The soup contains a mix of shitake, oyster and button mushroom shimmered in a rich potato and cream broth. The texture was good, served with two buns on the side.

Golden Salted Egg Yolk Seafood - RM21
Golden Salted Egg Yolk Chicken - RM21

What got me excited was the Golden Salted Egg Yolk Seafood which is on their Tapas & Bar Snacks menu. I love salted egg, and when its coating these tender crispy chicken breast, I know I'm in for a treat. One of the bestseller at Elephant Rock, the dish is served with freshly cut onions, curry leaves and bird eye chili with two soft buns on the side.

Clams & Mussels

Rock Ala Chili - RM25 for clams, RM32 for mussels
Rock Ala Chili - RM25 for clams, RM32 for mussels
Creamy Beef Bacon - RM25 for clams, RM32 for mussels
Creamy Beef Bacon - RM25 for clams, RM32 for mussels

Another top seller would be Elephant Rock's Clams & Mussels dishes. Being Chinese means I love my "lala", especially when its cooked in fragrant "kam heong" style. We tried out the Rock Ala Chili Clams and Creamy Beef Bacon Mussels. Sautéed garlic, onion, bird eye chili and their homemade chili spice makes the Rock Ala Chili my personal favourite, I could finish the whole bowl on my own. The chilli makes a world of difference in bringing out the flavours of the clams. If you like bacon bits, then the Creamy Beef Bacon Mussels will fit your taste buds perfectly.

Pasta

Linguine Aglio Olio - RM17.50
Linguine Aglio Olio - RM17.50

As there were only two of us that afternoon, we could not try too many dishes. From their pasta menu, we picked the Linguine Aglio Olio which came out wetter than usual but tastes good anyway. Spicy garlic olive oil is used, sautéed together with cherry tomatoes, black olives and fresh basil topped with chili flakes. I was more interested in the next dish.

Mains

Pan Seared Lamb Shoulder - RM41.90
Pan Seared Lamb Shoulder - RM41.90

Life's good when you get to enjoy a whole piece of Pan Seared Lamb Shoulder at Elephant Rock Restro Bar. Served on a wooden platter, we got to savour the whole juicy sliced 250-gm of Lamb Shoulder which is coated with herbs and Cajun spice. Served with potato wedges, side salad and yogurt mint sauce, be sure to share this dish, as it can be quite a mouthful to finish alone. Juicy, bursting with juicy flavours, I like this dish, a lot.

Cocktails

Sangria (Red) - RM18

They serve some pretty good cocktails as well, which I got to try out. Shown above is their Sangria, Classic Mojito and Whiskey Sour which went well with the food that we had. So now you know where to get some really good food and drinks the next time you're in the vicinity.
