Baking The Best Lava Cheese Tarts Using Anchor Cheese @ Village Grocer

Tart Sensation @ Village Grocer

Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend a lava cheese tart baking demonstration by Chef May Foo over at Village Grocers in SS15 Courtyard. Interesting event, where Chef May Foo aims to create the world’s best cheese tarts in Kuala Lumpur by using the finest dairy ingredients from New Zealand. Village Grocer will be carrying these creamy lava creations in their promotion beginning this week.

Everywhere you turn at shopping malls everywhere, you're bound to bump into one cheese tart or the other. Inspired by the cheese tart craze that hit Malaysian shores, Chef Foo developed a tart pastry that is light and crumbly and a cream cheese filling that is fluffy and soft. Easy to enjoy, this cheesy tart comes in four new flavours- Original, Golden Lava, Matcha and Tiramisu. It can be served warm, chilled or frozen.

“We choose to work with the New Zealand produce, which includes Anchor butter, cream and cream cheese because we wanted something rich, but also healthy – we liked the fact that the creaminess comes from happy grass-fed cows and that there is high protein, as well as that the ingredients are fully traceable,” added Chef Foo.

During the event, Chef May Foo demonstrated how to create those delicious creamy cheese tarts. So what exactly makes these cheese tart so special that they warrant a visit from us to shop at Village Grocer? Well, for starters, 2 types of of Anchor cheese are used to create the filling – Cream cheese and parmesan cheese. Sold in n bite-sized portions and baked fresh daily to deliver the best eating experience to customers, you know you want some.

We witness the different flavoured tarts being made. From the Original flavoured one, Golden Lava (salted egg yolk), Matcha and Tiramisu, they're all really good. The tarts are rather affordably priced ranging from only RM3.50 per piece. Keeping to the New Zealand theme, Village Grocer customers can also buy the Anchor dairy products in store and bake their own favourite tarts such as apple tarts and nutty chocolate tarts with New Zealand apples, Pic’s peanut butter and Whittaker’s Dark Ghana chocolates.
