Family Weekend Staycation @ The Queen's Suite, Palace Of The Golden Horses

A couple of weeks back, my family and myself had a really good weekend staycation over at Palace of The Golden Horses. Touted to be the perfect location to unwind, a place not far from the city, yet it has a serene country-side view and atmosphere when staying there. In fact, so much effort has been put in that they have been tagged as "Asia's Most Extraordinary Hotel", a world-class, award-winning, luxury hotel located within the iconic MINES Wellness City.

The good folks from Palace of the Golden Horses deemed it fit for me to stay over at the very grand Queen's Suite over the weekend, so here's my review writeup on the room, facilities and food that we enjoyed during our stay. On the record, the room name is of the type Head of State Suite, but this one is a themed room. Here we go!

The Queen's Suite is themed after Queen Elizabeth, with a rustic British decor, complete with wooden furnitures and very comfy plush sofas. It's all about being English, where even the floor is made of wood. At one corner, there's even a golden chair, symbolic of the chair where Queen Elizabeth actually sat at, when she stayed over at Palace of The Golden Horses many many years back.

Upon entering the suite, I was taken aback at the huge space it has. There's the bedroom, 2 bathrooms, a living hall, pantry, and dining space behind. Huge enough for my whole family, where this round I brought along my mum, the wife and my two children, Martin and Karlson.

A quick walk around the suite, and I was presented with the huge bathroom, complete with jacuzzi. I would have been satisfied with a place to shower, but not only did I get a bathtub, it's a jacuzzi, so bubbles for all!

Looking out the balcony, I was presented with all the grandeur and luxury that Palace of the Golden Horses have to offer. Just see the picture below, and you'll get what I mean. Talk about a room with a view. I couldn't wait then, to walk around and explore the hotel compound. It's a huge compound though, so we took our time getting the kids ready. I heard the swimming pool's very cool!

Heading out form the room, we passed the Carousel restaurant where we will be having our buffet dinner that night, and the Grand Salon Lobby Lounge where we will have our afternoon tea set the following day. Our aim then was to explore the greeneries and head towards the swimming pool. While walking there we reached a lake where there's this shaded verandah for us to rest and see the vast greeneries.

I wasn't so sure the use of the lake, but from where we were seated at, we did spot some turtles or tortoises (I can't differentiate between these two) swimming in the waters. The boys were excited though, as they took in the sights and sounds.

Both the boys just recovered from flu hence they were not allowed to swim this round. We did however managed to get some pictures of other guests having a fun time at the pool. It is a huge swimming pool, complete with a slide for children and adults to slide down. We took the chance to play with a mini-playground by the pool side.

Those who must get their exercise regime in, will be glad to know that Palace of The Golden Horses has a rather nicely equipped gym. We took the opportunity that afternoon to enter the gym. There were already healthy folks working out when we arrived. Ah, when's my turn to get healthy?

Of course, it's not advisable to bring kids inside, but I took extra care to keep a watchful eye on them. We were aiming for those bouncy exercise balls! Boing boing boing, that's how I would describe these balls. The kids love them.

It was back to our rooms after that, for a restful shower and for the kids to have their afternoon nap. I must say, the rooms were so comfortable, with pleasant and cold air condition. I nearly wanted to skip dinner and just sleep in. Nearly, but of course, the family need to be fed, and we weren't going to miss the "Hot From The Grill" buffet that night!

At Carousel , throughout the whole month of March, guests dining in can enjoy a wide selection of offerings such as Grilled Lamb, Chicken & Beef Quesadillas, imported Sausages & Bratwurst; and not forgetting other seafood delights such as Grilled Slipper Lobsters, Shrimps and many more. I was beside myself with joy at the grilled lamb and steak selections, coupled with freshly grilled sausages, it was good.

After a rather heavy meal for dinner, one which I overindulged in due to the "free flow" of grilled meat, we then retired for the night to our rooms. Love the suite, as the extra space did give us better comfort. For the first time in a rather long while, I had a good night's rest. The next day will be another new day of food and fun before checking out.

The next morning, we headed down to Carousel again for breakfast. As usual, I'm pleased with the variety of food presented, from croissants to local delicacies like nasi lemak, to porridge, fruits and desserts. We had our fair share, but this wasn't our last meal of the day at Palace of The Golden Horses. We were slotted to taste their Afternoon Tea Set at the Grand Salon Lobby Lounge after checking out at 12pm.

Unwind at the elegant ambiance of the newly-refurbished Grand Salon Lobby Lounge. Enjoy light music while sampling afternoon tea at a cozy atmosphere surrounded by beautiful fresh orchids. When we were there, the very charming and cordial staffs brought out a choice of English Tea to choose from, as well as an option for us to go for their three types of afternoon tea set; English Hi-Tea Set, Malaysian Set, and Healthy Hi-Tea Set.

  1. Nice, very nice. Problem is when you take them on a holiday on your own and they would expect such luxury all the time...unless you keep getting such invites...or you're loaded and can well afford the same.
