Sae Ma Eul Korean (새마을 BBQ) Restaurant @ PV128 Setapak

Just the other day, I had the opportunity to try out a rather new Korean BBQ restaurant located a stone's throw away from KL Festival City Mall, at PV128 Setapak to be exact. Newly set up, with their first outlet located in Solaris Mont Kiara, Sae Ma Eul Korean (새마을 BBQ) Restaurant embodies this open BBQ concept, something different from most Korean restaurants that I've been too, which were usually closed up and located inside air conditioned venues.

When we were there, the restaurant was already buzzing with diners and families all eager to have a wholesome Korean BBQ dinner. We went straight for their signature and main set dish, namely the Spicy BBQ Set (RM60) which can cater for 2 to 3 person, consisting of Spicy Grilled Pork Belly, Grilled Baby Octopus, Garlic, Chilli, and Steamed egg.

The fire came from these charcoal beneath giving the meat a very flavourful charcoal grilled taste. It wasn't just the meat that tasted good, even the side dishes which came with the Spicy BBQ set was pretty nice. The meat was grilled in front of us ensuring the meat is grilled just nice without being overcooked. I personally loved the Spicy Grilled Pork Belly, which literally oozes fats after being on the grill a couple of minutes. Pop it into your mouth, and let the chargrilled flavour fill your mouth.

There were other meat on the menu, ranging from pork ribs, pork shoulder, pork back ribs, grilled baby octopus, grilled chicken to pork skin. Now that's a whole lot of variety if you're a meat lover like me. Anyway, we were served with all these delicious fresh meat, which after being barbequed, came off being very tasty and flavourful, probably due to the sauces used to marinate the meat.

A rather unique dish off Sae Ma Eul's menu were these Spicy Rice Balls, where I had the chance to see it being rolled and prepared in front of us. The subsequent end results were these tasty balls with an explosion of seaweed, savoury rice, spicy kimchi, with a sweet aftertaste.

If you have a liking for kimchi, then you will love their Kimchi Stew, served in a bowl of claypot-like soup. Surprisingly, even though it looked really red, it wasn't as spicy as I thought it will be. Go for this soup to complement your barbequed korean meat.

If you're up for something other than soup or the bbq meat, then do try out Sae Ma Eul's Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pa Jeon). The serving is rather large, fit for up to 3 diners to share. Crispy on the outside, with fluffy egg-like texture in the middle and lots of ingredients, I do like this Korean pancake. It could however do with a bit more taste.

An interesting to note at Sae Ma Eul BBQ Restaurant, you do not have to pay any tax if you pay by cash. However if you use credit card, a 6% tax will be levied unto your total bill. Do check out the Sae Ma Eul Korean (새마을 BBQ) Restaurant @ PV128 Setapak should you be in the vicinity of Wangsa Maju and the surrounding area.

  1. No aircon? So hot lah... I love those suction pumps - will not walk out of the place stinking like those stuff you have barbecued.

I do agree with all the ideas you have introduced on your post.

They're really convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are very quick for
beginners. May just you please lengthen them a bit
from next time? Thank you for the post.
