Another new eatery is in town, with its soft launch happening last week, IKU Japanese Fusion Sushi @ Damansara Utama opened its doors to public. Offering speedy food services of healthy japanese food in fusion style, going by the tag 'Unleash Your Taste', we were there during the soft launch to sample their dishes.

IKU means "to go; to visit" in Japanese, and theyr'a all about healthy "fast food" to cater for the fast paced lifestyle diners go through. IKU offers "on-the-go" concept with their varieties in the menu, from fusion sushi to special signature bento boxes.

The main chef of IKU Japanese Fusion Sushi, Chef Yama is the apprentice of Mr MichihikuSakakuchi-san, Master Chef of New York. Dedicated to learn the art of sushi in Japan from Sesei, he has more than 20 years of working experience under his belt. With Chef Yama's extensive experience and his passion for sushi, besides using the traditional soy sauce and wasabi combo, he has created 10 special sauces to go with the sushi and bento box.

"Fusion is in the sauce, and I've made 10 different sauces just for a salmon" says Chef Yama. I got to savour some of the nicer sauces, namely the Spicy Mayo, Honey Wasabi, Yuzu, Mango and Strawberry sauces and they were unique to say the least.

#1 Chicken Teriyaki Bento - RM13.80
#1 Chicken Teriyaki Bento - RM13.80

One of the signature dishes that is prepared by IKU would be their Bento sets, ranging from salmon, sashimi and many more starting from RM13.80. Each box comes with a main course, 2 pieces of Japanese Lasagna sushi, pickles, salad and a bowl of fragrant Japanese short-grain rice with IKU's signature sauce. I chose to have the Chicken Teriyaki Bento, which came with tender, crispy on the outside chicken fillet.

#2 Fusion Salmon Belly Osaka Sushi - RM12.80

One of the crowd favourite, would be the Fusion Salmon Belly Osaka Sushi. The colours itself strikes me as being very bright, unlike the usual sushi fares elsewhere. Glazed and drizzled with the house specialty sauce, the fusion dish was a delight to munch into.

#3 Fusion Mango Waikiki - RM8.80
#3 Fusion Mango Waikiki - RM8.80

The Fusion Mango Waikiki was a blend of honey wasabi, fish roe, mango sauce and sesame, something I would not have thought of if I hadn't tasted it for myself at IKU. Promising a taste of Hawaii, it did indeed tantalize the taste buds.

#4 Unagi Don - RM26.80
#4 Unagi Don - RM26.80

I like my Unagi prepared with thick sweet sauce, and this was exactly how IKU prepared their Unagi Don. Served atop a bowl of rice, the generous large slabs of glazed Japanese unagi were drizzled with lots of thick sweet sauce. Savoury, sweet and delicious, I do recommend trying out this dish.

#5 Prawn Soup Udon - RM12.80
#5 Prawn Soup Udon - RM12.80

Served in a spicy Japanese broth along with fresh prawns, sliced egg, sliced naruto maki and fried onion, the Prawn Soup Udon looked nice, and tasted good as well. Being part of IKU's noodles selection, they were generous in the ingredients thrown into this dish.

#6 Seafood Soup Udon - RM12.80
#6 Seafood Soup Udon - RM12.80

Another noodle dish, the Seafood Soup Udon was the non-spicy variation of the prawn soup udon coming with sliced naruto maki, crabstick, tempura shrimp and mussel. Not bad, but I'm not much of a seafood noodle fan.

#7 Cold Soba - RM7.80
#7 Cold Soba - RM7.80

If you're a fan of cold noodles, then do try out IKU's Cold Soba. Served with fishcake and cut wakame, the slightly chilled buckwheat soba noodles were rather refreshing. But again, I could never get used to having cold noodles, hence I will reserve my judgment on this dish.

#8 IKU's Signature "Traffic Light" - Iced Matcha Passion Puree, Iced Matcha Lychee Rose and Iced Matcha Green Apple - RM5.80 each

#9 Matcha Chocolate, Matcha Latte and Matcha White Coffee - RM6.80 each

The drinks served at IKU Japanese Fusion Sushi were unique too, from the Signature Traffic Light juice series to the Matcha Chocolate, Latter and White Coffee. I personally like the Iced Matcha Green Apple drink as they actually infused the refreshing taste of green tea with apple juice. Do visit and try out IKU Japanese Fusion Sushi the next time you are in the vicinity of Damansara Uptown.

  3. Anything new in the market will have room for improvement. Do not be to so fast to judge a newly set up eatery. We should be thankful that out there, people are trying to bring different cuisine to Malaysia. Seriously, for one I LOVE THE FOOD! service or speed could have been better I agree, but food YES.. is very delicious.

Well, any new start up eatery will have room for improvement, so do not that quick to jump the gun on their services. Food wise, I do not about you, for me I love every bit of it. Is delicious and is unique. We should be grateful for people trying to bring new cuisine into Malaysia. Despite its service flow needs improvement, I will still support this yummies in town!
