Coffee And Dessert Pairing Session @ Pacific Coffee Company Paradigm Mall

Now I've been to my fair share of visiting Pacific Coffee Company (PCC) outlets around the Klang Valley recently, and really appreciate their comfy decor, fast wifi internet and of course the meticulously prepared coffee drinks. Last week, I had the opportunity to catch a Coffee And Dessert Pairing Session with fellow bloggers and media at their outlet in Paradigm Mall. Read on for my take on the pairing session.

With an aim to give their customers an unforgettable experience while enjoying their perfect cup of coffee, Pacific Coffee Company (PCC) organized a coffee and food pairing session hosted by PCC Coffee Ambassador Mike Yung. With numerous accolades and awards under his belt, PCC invited him here for the event to share on his knowledge and experience.

Mike Yung who originally hailed from Canada, received his early education from University of British Columbia, made a pit stop to Kuala Lumpur as part of his Asian tour upon signing up with PCC as its Coffee Ambassador in late 2013. Named Champion at the 2007 Canadian National Barista Championships in Toronto, Canada, we could actually feel his passion for the luscious black beverage during the event.

In line with PCC's passion for quality coffee, three main coffee beans were selected for the pairing session, namely the Sumatra, Costa Rica, and Ethopian Mocha. With exotic names such as these, I was really looking forward to tasting it especially after being paired with my favourite desserts. These are PCC's signature coffee beans which are available at all PCC outlet, well suited for the local palate.

Desserts featured during the event were the famous Tiramisu, paired with the Sumatra coffee blend, American baked cheesecake paired with Costa Rica blend and last but not least, the Blueberry Cheesecake which was paired with the Ethiopian Mocha blend.

Pairing #1: Tiramisu with Sumatra blend coffee
Pairing #1: Tiramisu with Sumatra blend coffee

From the well-known Indonesian island, the Sumatran blend has a fascinating complex herbal and earthy aspect to the aroma which is derived from the highlands of the tropical forests and the surrounding area of Lake Toba. The smooth texture and flavours from the Tiramisu which is infused with the Sumatran coffee beans to complement each other really well.

Pairing #2: American Baked Cheesecake with Costa Rica blend coffee

The Costa Rica blend coffee brings me images of beautiful tropical landscape and fine coffee. Full bodied with a pungent characteristic, coupled with maple syrup and herbal notes, this coffee blend exhibits sweet taste and bold richness. Paired with the American Baked Cheesecake, it brings out a refreshing taste and rich taste.

Pairing #3: Blueberry Cheesecake with Ethiopian Mocha Coffee

The Ethiopian Mocha is rich in taste with notes of leather, wood, earth and nuances of berry fruit. It is a dry-processed coffee, unlike the rest in Pacific Coffee's lineup. The processing of the beans tends to produce a heavy-bodied coffee with low acidity. Delicious blueberries, rich indulgent cheesecake pairs well with the Ethiopian Mocha coffee forming a unique fruity fragrance.

Each blend of the coffee paired during the event has its own notes that complement each dessert. With the basics of coffee pairing being introduced to me at the event, I do appreciate coffee that little bit more. Pacific Coffee Company originated from Hong Kong and first started operations in Malaysia in 2010. The company currently has 15 outlets located in Klang Valley, Penang and Malacca. 1. I'd stick to our own local roasted and brew. It's Arabica beans, roasted manually in a hand-turned drum over a charcoal fire, not by machine, with butter added - that's what makes it special.

Dunno if they've anything like it here - sure would want to try. So far, I've yet to find a place with really nice place with good coffee in the peninsula - those at the hotels are pretty ok...but none that I've had outside.

    1. *a place with really good coffee* I've tried those branded ones too - I think I quite liked the one at Penang airport and that Irish place at MV, KL- the rest, not really. But of course, one man's meat is another man's poison. To each his own...

  2. I'm not a coffee person coz coffee makes me super hyper, I can go quite mad. I'm more of a tea person. But love the tiramisu n blueberry cheesecake! Haha.. Look at me, my eyes target at food only. Macam mana I'm not fat right? :P
