Sony Xperia Z1 Review Part 1: Unboxing

Sony Xperia Z1, the premium smartphone offering Sony's best trademark, it's hallmark beautiful design, and photographic excellence, has recently been launched. Okay, probably not too recent, but I am delighted to get my grubby hands on this latest smartphone from Sony to play with. Here's the first part of my review, the unboxing of Sony Xperia Z1.

Part 1: Unboxing of the Sony Xperia Z1

When I picked it up the other day, I was told it came in black or white casing. Initially I wanted the black one as it looked beautiful, but due to the want for something unique and different, I went the "snow white" path. It didn't look bad at all, in fact the white colour provided such an artistic contrast with the front of the phone and screen.

Considering that the unit itself measured a 144 x 74 x 8.5mm with a rather large screen of 5", I would have expected a larger box to fit it. The box that housed my new Sony Xperia Z1 was quite small and thin. Being compact was one thing, but this was actually due to the lack of a Sony headset. Yes, the package does not include any headset this time around, something which I was surprised. Probably Sony expects its tech savvy owners to already have their latest state of the art personal headset.

Unboxing the Sony Xperia Z1 was a no frills affair. Inside the box, we have the phone itself, some pieces of manuals (Warranty card, user manual, and a simple Start guide), a compact charger, and its accompanying microUSB cable. Very basic indeed, but I guess what's important is the technology inside the smartphone itself.

Utilizing the standard microUSB cable which can be used to charge as well as data transfers was a welcome sight, as anybody used to the latest generations of Sony smartphone will already have one or more of these cables.

That concludes Part 1 of review of the latest Sony Xperia Z1. With a weight of 170g, it is not the lightest smartphone around, but this can be attributed to the solid built of the phone casing, made from a solid aluminium chassis. The Sony Xperia Z1 is a premium phone, ranking as one of the greatest out there, and Sony really put a lot of effort in making it stand out. Part 2 of my review will write on the First Looks of the Sony Xperia Z1, before entering into the nitty gritty details of its features and all. Watch out for it!
