CNY Chinese Cuisine @ Cheng Ho Court Mines Wellness Hotel

How time flies, I could still remember a year ago when I was at this same restaurant sampling their Chinese New Year menu, and there I was again last night to try out Cheng Ho Court's contemporary Chinese cuisine. Check out my previous post (Cheng Ho Court Restaurant Mines Wellness Hotel).

So there we were, a bunch of bloggers and friends on a nice evening ready to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year with Cheng Ho Court Restaurant's dishes, weeks earlier than the actual date. It did not hamper our mood though, as we happily tossed the traditional Salmon and Snow Pear Lou Sang for a better year ahead.

#1 Special Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup
#1 Special Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup

The first dish that came out after our lou sang affair was Cheng Ho's Special Double Boiled Black Chicken Soup. Essentially a rather healthy chicken soup, we had these exotic ingredients thrown in for good measures, namely the fish paw and a piece of abalone. I do like the sweetness of the soup, giving out a really nice aroma and taste. Taken piping hot, it was a perfect dish for a cold night.

Dragon Otak Otak Chicken
#2 Dragon Otak Otak Chicken

Now this dish was pretty unique to me. I've tried Otak-otak before, and chicken meat has always been on my diet every day. But combine these two together, throw in some almond flakes, and you have the Dragon Otak Otak Chicken. The dish was presented to us cut up, in bite sized portion, which I felt fitted perfectly into my mouth. The crispy chicken skin was left intact, with a thin slice of meat, and lots of yummy otak-otak sandwiched inside.

Steamed Bamboo Fish with Soya Sauce
#3 Steamed Bamboo Fish with Soya Sauce

From a meat lover, I started to gain a liking towards fresh steamed fish, partly influenced by Janice who loves steamed fish dishes. Here at Cheng Ho Court, we were presented with their Steamed Bamboo Fish with Soya Sauce. The soya sauce base was pretty common, but what made the difference was the freshness of the bamboo fish, and its really tender white meat. Now this is a must-have dish for any chinese cuisine if you asked me.

#4 Baked King Prawn with Garlic and Cheese
#4 Baked King Prawn with Garlic and Cheese

I initially thought this dish was flame grilled judging from the slightly burned edges and all which reminded me of a similar dish from the Manhattan Fish Market franchise. On the contrary, it was the Baked King Prawn with Garlic and Cheese, served on a plate with huge generously sliced pieces. If you're a fan of garlic and cheese to be taken with prawns, then this dish would fit your tastebuds perfectly.

Cheng Ho Braised Mixed Dried Seafood with Clay Pot Sadri
#5 Cheng Ho Braised Mixed Dried Seafood with Clay Pot Sadri

Not unlike most wedding dinners I've been to recently, we have this staple dish for any CNY menu, the Braised Mixed Dried Seafood with Clay Pot Sadri. Comprising of seafood, dried oyster, mushrooms, scallop served with brocolli, it does have an exotic flavour to it. I personally am not a big fan of dried oyster, so I did not have much of this dish. A fellow blogger, Anna did mention it was good.

Take a delicious plate of Fried Rice, add in some seafood, abalone and pine seed, and you have yourself an even better plate of Fried Rice. Abalone Seafood Fried Rice with Pine Seed was a perfect dish to stuff yourself with if the previous dishes weren't enough to fill the stomach. Unlike the usual fried rice, here the aromatic fried rice did taste good, especially with those bits and pieces of abalone thrown in.

It was a sweet ending to our pre-CNY meal over at Cheng Ho Court Mines Wellness Hotel as we were treated to some really sweet desserts in the form of the Fancy Duets and the Double Boiled Mix Fruit Sago and Almond Beancurd.

Overall, it was a good meal, with the menu infused with traditional Chinese herbs and popular delectable Chinese dishes. Cheng Ho Court Mines Wellness Hotel's Chinese New Year Set Menu ranged from RM888++ per table of 10pax to RM1688++ per table of 10pax depending on the dishes.
