Tony Roma's Best Ribs Election Showdown @ Setia City Mall

Tony Roma's Restaurant, an international franchise kicked off their promotion for the Best Ribs Election Showdown recently. I would have guessed it was in conjunction with the United State's election which Obama won. Commencing from the 5th November 2012 until the 20th of January 2013, the eleven week campaign will be an election process to vote from Tony Roma's three best selling ribs contending for the "Best Ribs in Town" title.

So there I was on a rainy evening, arriving just in time to be welcomed by Dickson Low, the Chief Operating Officer of Revenue Valley, sole franchise holder of Tony Roma's in Malaysia himself. It was only my second time over at Setia City Mall, the first was during the launch of Sushi Tei. The restaurant itself was rather unique, unlike the other Tony Roma's I went to, as here at Setia City Mall, the restaurant was spacious and really comfy.

With a setup almost similar to an election ballot, up till the introduction of the three ribs candidates, I found it almost hilarious that we would be placing vote for some delicious ribs. The "candidates" presented for the campaign were the delectable Bountiful Beef Ribs, Beef Short Ribs and the Lamb Ribs, an innovation made possible by Tony Roma's Malaysia. 

#1 Lamb Ribs - RM 45.90

The unique Lamb Ribs came out piping hot, a really good contender indeed. With its tender marinated lamb ribs, flame grilled with Tony Roma's signature seasonings and honey plum glaze, I actually liked this dish a lot. I did not vote for it in the end though, as I'm more of a beef person. I did like the fact the lamb meat here was really juicy and did not reek too much of the lamb's overpowering taste. 

#2 Beef Short Ribs - RM58.90

Bring out the beef ribs I say, and it wasn't long before the Beef Short Ribs were brought out for my enjoyment. Claiming to be the "ribs that everyone can enjoy", the dish features braised and grilled bone-in ribs, topped with demi-glace and fire roasted zucchini, red peppers and carrots complete with the sides, mashed potatoes. Mouthwatering I would say, but yet it did not win my vote this round. 

#3 Bountiful Beef Ribs - RM53.90

The last dish but definately the best in my books were Tony Roma's Bountiful Beef Ribs. Served in a huge platter, with big meaty ribs topped with Tony Roma's very own original BBQ sauce, I could finish off the whole platter given the chance. Yummy stuff, as the ribs virtually fell off the bones on each bite.

And it was time to cast our votes!

It was pretty cool, that the vote I cast for the Bountiful Beef Ribs helped this dish win the election! Just like any good old democratic process, it was up to us, the public to decide the winner. Great job, and congratulations to Bountiful Beef Ribs.

Tony Roma's also announced that over the next eleven weeks, a series of attractive promotions centered around the "candidates" would be held at all their branches. Do check out Tony Roma's Facebook page for regular updates. Overall, it was a good evening out, as I had my fair share of really good yummy ribs.
