Fei Fei Crab Restaurant Aman Puri Kepong

Just last week, I had the opportunity to dine around the vicinity of Kepong over at this chinese restaurant named Fei Fei Crab Restaurant. Located inside Desa Aman Puri, it was actually very near to a previous Bak kut teh restaurant which I've reviewed before. (Bak Kut Teh Klang Yip Yong Kepong) As it's name state, the specialty was their crab dishes, but we got to try their other specialties as well.

Arriving at the restaurant on a Sunday for lunch, I was definately looking forward to some nic no-frills chinese cuisine with Janice and friends. Fei Fei Crab which translated literally from mandarin would mean "Fat Fat Crab" hence my anticipation of some really juicy big crabs to be served that afternoon.

We had a couple of nice chinese cuisine before the arrival of this huge crab dish, but I shall showcase this dish first because I guess it was what we came here for. I rarely have the chance to eat a lot of crabs, so this was a good opportunity for me to develop my taste for this delicacy. Served with peanut sauce, the Peanut Butter Crab dish itself was really creamy, and the crabs were huge to say the least!

From what I observed everyone did really enjoy the crabs laid out for us. With its big claws and all, there were ample crab meat to go around. We just had to be hardworking enough to crack open those shells. As for me, I really liked the mantao that came along with the dish, as it was crispy on the outside, soft bread inside, dipped in the peanut butter sauce, heavenly.

#2 Fei Fei Specialty Dish 2012 - RM30
#2 Fei Fei Crab's Specialty Dish 2012 - RM30

Back to the other dishes, we actually started off the meal with Fei Fei Crab's Specialty Dish named 2012. A simple name, but the dish itself was elaborate which consisted of yam ring, sweet and sour pork ribs topped with flavourful butter chicken pieces. The dish itself was perfect as a starting dish for any meal, and definately whetted our appetite for more to come.

Frankly speaking, this was my first time having a fish like this, where the fish is wrapped in white salt all over, served fresh to our table. Believe me when I say it's real salt, as I did try to taste some myself, and got "saltified" almost immediately. The skin is easy to peel off though, revealing the delicious soft and tasty flesh inside. We were told the preparation of this fish was an hour in advance, where it is stuffed with a mix of ginger and garlic before being coated with the salt, wrapped in aluminium foil and cooked. Salt Wrapped Fish, or known as Suet San Fei Wu is one of Fei Fei Crab's specialty dish as well.

#4 Two Flavor Japanese Snail (Butter and Dried Chilies) - RM30
#4 Two Flavor Japanese Snail (Butter and Dried Chilies) - RM30

Snails, snails everywhere. This dish when brought out caught my attention as I haven't actually tried these type of snails before. One side was cooked in butter type of sauce, while the other was slightly spicier in a black dried chili sauce. It tasted just like chicken, except for a firmer crunchier structure. I did not have much of the Two Flavor Japanese Snails though, as I much preferred my traditional meaty dishes.

#5 The Mexican Chicken - RM30

Give me more meat I said, and it came. The Mexican Chicken was a name given to the dish above by Fei Fei Crab Restaurant which consisted of deep fried chicken fried with the Chef's special sauce with sprinkled cheese on top. Simple as it looks and sound, I loved this dish, as the cheesiness of the dish really appeals to my taste buds.

Stir Fried Vegetables with Garlic - RM10

Sizzling Seafood Platter - RM20
#7 Sizzling Seafood Platter - RM20

Up next were the veggie dishes, namely the Stir Fried Vegetables with Garlic and the Sizzling Seafood Platte. Now the sizzling seafood platter was rather unique and very tasty as it consisted of a combination of prawns, long beans, brinjals, green mussels and bamboo clams. The chilli paste used really brought out the tastiness and flavour to the dish.

Lotus Leaf Tofu in Cage - RM18
#8 Lotus Leaf Tofu in Cage - RM18

We ended our very heavy Sunday afternoon meal with the Lotus Leaf Tofu in Cage dish. Served inside a "dim sum"-like basket, the tofu was really soft and literally melted in our mouth. There were chunks of prawns inside too, everything served on top of this lotus leaf. Overall it was a good meal out, so if you happen to be in the vicinity of Kepong and in the mood for some crabs, do remember to drop by Fei Fei Crab Restaurant.

  7. Highly not recommended and will never come back again! It was my first visit to here and finding it deceitful. There is no pricing at all in the menu and the employee's attitude is very disappointing sorry to say. The food wise is just below average and totally not worth the high price.
