Celcom Cupcake Challenge Finale @ Publika Solaris Dutamas

Early this month, Celcom kick started the Celcom Cupcake Challenge online where I had the opportunity to play around and attend a cupcake making workshop (Celcom Cupcake Challenge @ The Cooking House). Well this afternoon was the finale, where a very lucky and skillful person with the best cupcake walked away with the grand prize of RM10000.

Launched on 30th august 2012, the simple online contest challenged Malaysians to show their love for their country by submitting photos of their creative cupcake designs based on a 1Malaysia theme in conjunction with our country's 55th anniversary of Independence (Merdeka Day 2012) and the Malaysia Day celebrations on 16th September.

All the 52 finalists that afternoon at the Celcom Cupcake Challenge Finale in Publika were there to decorate and prove that their cupcake was the best. They were all in the running to win more than RM100000 of prizes, which were:
  • 1st Prize: RM10000 in cash and Samsung Galaxy SIII mobile phone
  • 2nd Prize: RM5000 in cash and Samsung Galaxy SIII mobile phone
  • 3rd Prize: RM2000 in cash and Samsung Galaxy SIII mobile phone
  • The rest of the 52 finalists: An LG Prada mobile phone each.

So there I was watching all these people making great looking cupcakes, with so many of them bringing their own icing, and accessories to make their creations pretty, beautiful and unique. But of course, if given the chance to walk away with RM10000 in cash, I wouldn't hold back at all and go all out to win!

There were a couple of celebrity judges involved this afternoon to judge the contestants, namely Chef Rose Weiss, Chef Sherson Lian, and Chef Dato Fazley Yaakob, the winner of MasterChef Selebrity Malaysia in 2012. At the finale, vistors to Publika were treated to a 1000 free cupcakes giveaway as well as opportunities to enjoy cupcake decoration workshops and hands-on sessions.

It took quiet some time for the judging to complete, as the competition was really tight. Everybody tried their very best, giving the judges a run for their money. The event actually dragged on until past 5pm before the winners were announced. It was a rather festive moment when the winner of the RM10000 cash, Mr Vincent Liew was called to the stage.

As I looked on in envy, a congratulations is in order as well. The Celcom Cupcake Challenge was a success where it actually brought together the online Malaysia community in a sweet cupcake creation contest. Do check out some more photos below of the winners of the Celcom Cupcake Challenge and their creations. The 2nd prize went to Siong Cai Yun with her cupcake creation shown below.
