Zhung Kong Dim Sum @ Off Jalan Genting Klang

These past few days, due to the holidays I took the chance to wake up earlier and head for this rather nice dim sum spot nearby my place in Setapak. Zhung Kong Dim Sum, located just off Jalan Genting Klang behind the KFC Jalan Genting Klang was my choice of restaurant to have some early morning dim sum with Janice.

Siew Mai - RM3.30
#1 Siew Mai - RM3.30

Now, I've always wanted to look for a nice dim sum spot around my area. The last one I went to at Mang Chuan was a disappointment to say the least, hence I was rather apprehensive when reaching this restaurant. The number of people crowding the restaurant even though it was just 8.30am was a good sign though. We had the usuals, one of it would be the Siew Mai. Made from soft meat, the siew mai was both soft and savory enough to warrant one more basket.

Now these delectable pieces of dim sums were brought out steaming hot from the basket, and I'm glad to say they all tasted really good. No stale prawn taste, and juicy enough when bitten into the meat. Janice seems to love the Har Kow and the Prawn Dim Sum. As for me, I'm more of a "fried stuff" person, but I do appreciate the siew mai.

Now I do like to order the fried stuff on top of those steam dim sums, and the top three and the ones I managed to sample last weekend. Personally I liked the fried dumpling and wantan, as they did not scrimp on the prawns and meat. However for the fried har kow, it tasted a bit too thick, as if the dough was not evenly spread nor fried. Luckily the prawns used were fresh though.

Loh Mai Kai (Glutinous Rice with Meat)
#7 Loh Mai Kai (Glutinous Rice with Meat)

I do have to commend Zhung Kong Dim Sum on their really delicious glutinous rice with meat or better known as Loh Mai Kai. Even though it was really oily, but the taste itself made up for it. It's really soft and moist, very similar to enjoying a plate of Bak Zhang. I like the amount of meat they managed to put inside that small package.

Overall it was a rather nice dim sum breakfast, one which I haven't truly enjoyed in a long while. Overall the price came up to RM30 for the 2 of us including the hot jasmine tea. I'm not sure though if there is any other nicer dim sum spots around Setapak area, but if I were to find any, be sure I'll write on it given the chance.
