Ikuzo Ramen SS2 Petaling Jaya

Ikuzo Ramen SS2 is this japanese ramen restaurant located in the heart of SS2 where there's lots of food. Unlike the usual japanese restaurants offering ramens, Ikuzo Ramen prides themselves of dishing out good food with an affordable pricing. The decor of the shop itself presents itself as some sort of ramen revolution which was actually pretty unique.

The rather unique environment and decor of Ikuzo Ramen SS2

So there I was after a long day at work settling down with this happy group of bloggers to try out some of the good food and ramen that Ikuzo Ramen SS2 had to offer. It was dinner time, and from the good things I heard of this restaurant before I arrived, I was pretty pumped up to try their dishes.

Age Gyoza - RM4.50/5pcc
#1 Age Gyoza - RM4.50/5pc
Gyoza - RM4.50/5pcs
#2 Gyoza - RM4.50/5pcs

We started off with some pan fried appetizers namely the Gyoza and its more appetizing sibling the Age Gyoza. Personally I felt the prices here are really affordable, where we can't actually get these elsewhere at the same price. The minced stuffing inside these Japanese crescent shaped dumplings were really delicious, coupled with some sauce.

Wafu Kyuri Salad RM2.00
#3 Wafu Kyuri Salad RM2.00
Cabbage Kimuchi - RM2.80
#4 Cabbage Kimuchi - RM2.80

More appetizers came our way before we actually went ahead to savor Ikuzo Ramen's signature ramen dishes. If you're a kimchi or veggie lover, then do try our their Wafu Kyuri Salad, or the Cabbage Kimchi. I didn't really fancy kimchis, but the ones here were pretty good. The wafu sauce itself was a unique thing for me, which had a mustard-like colour and texture to it. Ikuzo Ramen do sell bottles of these wafu sauce separately at RM12.90 per bottle.

Okonomiyaki RM4.50
#5 Okonomiyaki RM4.50
Harumaki RM3.90
#6 Harumaki RM3.90

We had more appetizers before the main dishes came out. Fried and savoury dishes in the form of the delicious Okonomiyaki, and Harumaki. By the rate the dishes were brought out, we were pretty filled up even before the ramens came out.

Ajisuke Tamago RM1.00
Ajisuke Tamago RM1.00

If you fancy some eggs to kick off the night, then do go for Ikuzo Ramen's Ajisuke Tamago, which was essentially boiled japanese styled eggs. At RM1, it could do no wrong. Check out the array of affordably priced ramens offered by Ikuzo Ramen as below.

Tokyo Ramen - RM7.90
#7 Tokyo Ramen - RM7.90
Tonkatsu Ramen - RM7.90
#8 Tonkatsu Ramen - RM7.90
Cha-Shu Ramen - RM8.90
#9 Cha-Shu Ramen - RM8.90

The above three Ramen dishes were the clear soup Ramen dishes, coming in the form of the Tokyo Ramen, Tonkatsu Ramen, and the Cha Shu Ramen. The Tokyo Ramen is a Shoyu-based soup with cha-shu, bamboo shoots, spinach, and egg inside. The ingredients and flavour did not differ much though, but I do appreciate the Cha-Shu Ramen, as they were really generous in the tender meat that was put inside. The soup itself tasted really nice.

Curry Tan Tan Ramen - RM6.90
#10 Curry Tan Tan Ramen - RM6.90
Tom Yum Ramen - RM10.90
#11 Tom Yum Ramen - RM10.90

Next up were the spicier Ramen offerings, in form of the Curry Tan Tan Ramen, and the Tom Yum Ramen, reserved for the chilli lovers in us. The Curry Tan Tan Ramen came with mah lat spice (peppercorn) and minced chicken, which really brought out the spiciness in the soup. However, I would recommend the Tom Yum Ramen for the bigger kick in taste. The Tom Yum Ramen came with Shoyu paste soup, prawns, squid, crab meat and fish slices, which was good indeed, not too salty unlike the preveious ramens.

Hokkaido Ramen - RM8.50
#12 Hokkaido Ramen - RM8.50
Curry Ramen - RM7.90
#13 Curry Ramen - RM7.90

One of Ikuzo's signature ramen dish was their Hokkaido Ramen, which had 2 slices of cha-shu, bamboo shoots, spinach, bean sprouts and sweet corn. Out of all the other ramen soups, I rather like the miso paste soup, as it had a milder savoury taste. The final ramen dish that came out that wonderful evening was the Curry Ramen, which after all the previous ramens that we tasted earlier, fortunately was a curry dish, which tantalized our taste buds. It had a variety of condiments inside,  chili paste, sliced garlic, pickled chili, shicimi, ginger, ponzu (citrus-based sauce), peanut, fried shallots, white pepper and chili oil.

Dessert for you?

We ended our meal at Ikuzo Ramen SS2 with a very full stomach and an ice cold dessert. It was a good meal, and if you haven't noticed, the prices of all the various ramens served here ranged from RM7.90 to RM8.90, way less than what other Japanese establishments are charging for a plate of ramen. Do check out this restaurant should you be in the vicinity of SS2 PJ.
